Описание:
There are many moving parts in a waterflood, and, while the vast majority of waterfloods are successful, success is not guaranteed. Most early waterfloods were primarily seen as a means to arrest the pressure decline experienced under depletion so that the producers could maintain economic rates. However, the process has moved on from those modest aspirations, and projects now aim to maximize recovery. Because waterflood relies on the injected water displacing oil from the reservoir, the injected water must come into contact with as much of the reservoir rock as possible if good recoveries are to be achieved. As a result of geological complexities, this condition will not automatically be met, so a high degree of focus must be placed on the project design so that the factors that would otherwise reduce flood efficiency can be properly managed and mitigated. This book looks in some detail at the factors that can contribute to poor waterflood performance and considers how they can be properly managed.

Waterflood is the most commonly used recovery process that relies on an external source of energy to maximize field recovery. The reason for this success is clear-it works. However, there are many moving parts in a waterflood, and, while the vast majority of waterfloods are successful, success is not guaranteed. Most early water floods were primarily seen as a means to arrest the pressure decline experienced under depletion so that the producers could maintain economic rates. However, the process has moved on from those modest aspirations, and projects now aim to maximize recovery.

As a result of geological complexities, this condition will not automatically be met, so a high degree of focus must be placed on the project design so that the factors that would otherwise reduce flood efficiency can be properly managed and mitigated. Описание:
The primary function of well and reservoir surveillance is to ensure the asset is operated in an effective manner to optimize recovery and/or the asset's value. Waterflooding Surveillance and Remediation describes the various elements that could be included as components in a surveillance plan related to waterflood management. It subsequently looks at the options available to improve flood performance. There will inevitably be surveillance elements required that are not related to the waterflood. Those elements will not be discussed here, and the focus will be entirely on waterflood-related surveillance.

Waterflooding is an important method of improving recovery, but successful waterflood performance requires a sound design. Waterflooding begins with understanding the basic principles of immiscible displacement, then presents a systematic procedure for designing a waterflood. The emphasis is on fundamental concepts and their application in solving various waterflooding problems. Design procedures that can be prepared as small computer programs and selected computer subprograms for more complex designs are presented.

It is becoming increasingly recognized that chemistry issues can and have a significant impact on the way a waterflood project progresses. This topic is therefore the first to be covered in a series of books addressing various factors associated with waterflood. These issues might primarily affect the operating costs associated with a project, but they can also impact recovery. For example, in fields where reservoir souring has occurred, there can be constraints related to the hydrogen sulfide content of gas export volumes. In extreme cases, these constraints could require wells producing high volumes to be shut in, and production will, at the best, be deferred but there might also be a negative impact on ultimate recovery. Similar, high hydrogen sulfide producing wells might need to be shut in because of well-integrity concerns associated with the corrosion impacts on well materials. In such cases it is highly likely that stranded oil volumes cannot then be produced because the remaining volumes do not facilitate economic repairs, so this factor suggests a very high likelihood of an overall recovery impact.
This is just one possible impact that chemistry can have on waterflood performances for injectivity but also might affect recovery through changes to rock wettability (low-salinity flooding), scaling problems, wax and asphaltene problems, and hydrating formation. Consequently, a range of chemistry-related issues can materially influence waterfloods. These issues will be explored in more detail in this book.
