Описание: In 1940, Roy H. Elrod joined the Marine Corps. His unit, the 8th Marine Regiment, went into the fight at Guadalcanal. On D-Day at Tarawa his platoon waded their 37mm cannons ashore through half a mile of bullet-laced surf. At Saipan, Elrod commanded a platoon of 75mm halftracks. Fred H. Allison interviewed Elrod, drew on wartime letters, and provided annotations to his narrative to tell his story.

Описание: 5 lectures, Bern, April 13-17, 1924 (CW 309) These lectures on Waldorf education were given as a course during Easter week, 1924, in Bern. Although these talks were given more than eighty years ago, they remain remarkably contemporary. Every word still resonates with passion and dedication to the human adventure. "We must develop an art of education that can lead us out of the social chaos into which we have fallen during the last few years and decades.... There is no escaping this chaos unless we can find a way to bring spirituality into human souls through education, so that human beings may find a way to progress and to further the evolution of civilization out of the spirit itself." --Rudolf Steiner At the time of these lectures, Steiner had only eleven months left to live in this world. The first Waldorf school had been established five years earlier, and the intervening period witnessed Steiner's tireless activity in every area of that school's life. Now it was, in a sense, time to bring the ripe fruit of this work to the public. Together with its companion course The Essentials of Education, presented three days earlier, this book provides a stimulating synthesis of the Waldorf approach to education. Teachers, parents, and anyone interested in education will discover the fundamental characteristics of a new art of education. The lectures:
Lecture 1: A new education requires a new knowledge of the whole human being in body, soul, and spirit. The change of teeth signals the end of the first stage of childhood. Soul and spirit descend into a body provided by inheritance, which is used as the model for the "second" human being. During the first stage the child is a sense organ that perceives moral influences. The influence of the teacher's temperament.
Lecture 2: The goal of Waldorf education is to reveal new methods of teaching. The power of spiritual perception for understanding children and adults. Sleeping and waking. The seasons reflected in the human being. Thinking as an etheric "grasping." Materialistic ideas and insomnia. Psychic influences and physical effects.
Lecture 3. Memory before and after the change of teeth. The physical and etheric bodies. The etheric body and sculpting. The astral body and music. The I-being and speech. The musical scale and the human body. The teacher as therapist. Doctors and the school. Teaching letters.
Lecture 4. The sense organization and moral development at the change of teeth. Mathematics begins with the whole. The child's natural religious impulse. The need for images after seven. The need to feel a connection with destiny after fourteen. The child's relationship with the world.
Lecture 5. The three divisions of the middle stage of childhood. Nature and history. Children after puberty go into life. The experience of immortality. Punishment. Reading the child. The need for a living experience of one another today. Moon and Sun forces in the plant world. Spiritual science reveals the unity of the human being with the world.

15 discussions with teachers of the Stuttgart Waldorf School, Aug. 21 - Sept. 6, 1919 3 lectures on the curriculum, Sept. 6, 1919 (CW 295)
"In spiritual science we divide the human being into 'I'-being, astral body, etheric body, and physical body. In an ideal human being, the harmony predestined by the cosmic plan would naturally predominate among these four human principles. But in reality, this is not so with any individual. Thus, it can be seen that the human being, when given over to the physical plane, is not yet really complete; education and teaching, however, should serve to make the human being complete. One of the four elements rules in each child, and education and teaching must harmonize these four principles" (Rudolf Steiner).
For two weeks, prior to the opening of the first Waldorf school in Stuttgart, Rudolf Steiner intensively prepared the individuals he had chosen to become the first Waldorf teachers. At 9:00 a.m. each day, he gave the course now translated as Foundations of Human Experience; at 11:00 a.m., Practical Advice to Teachers; and then, after lunch, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., he held the informal "discussions" published in this book.
The tone is spontaneous and relaxed. Steiner does not prescribe specific methods but introduces topics and situations, offering guidelines and allocating practical assignments that are taken up and discussed in the next session. The discussions are filled with insights and suggestions in many different areas of teaching--history, geography, botany, zoology, form drawing, mathematics, and more.
Speech exercises are included. This edition also includes, for the first time in English, three important lectures on the curriculum, given the day just before the school opened.
These fifteen discussions constitute an essential part of the basic training material for Waldorf teachers.
Discussions with Teachers is a translation from German of Erziehungskunst. Seminarbesprechungen und Lehrplanvortr ge (vol. 295 in the Bibliographical Survey, published by Rudolf Steiner Verlag, Dornach, Switzerland, 1961).
Written by independent authority on Steiner's teachings, Dr. Adrian Anderson, author of 18 books including the Rudolf Steiner Handbook.
Leonardo's masterpiece decayed and fell into ruin by about 1550, but the "Idea" that it embodied was inspired from a high spiritual source, and contains deep truths of esoteric Christianity, especially in regard to the link between the zodiac and the Logos, the cosmic Christ, Jesus himself and his 12 Disciples. Rudolf Steiner taught that the Idea behind the painting is what is of value, and his approach to Leonardo's masterpiece was to make use of the superb copy painted by Giampetrino, who was himself a student of Leonardo.
Over several years, Dr. Anderson used his expertise in re-freshing damaged artworks of an esoteric nature, to re-create as far as possible, what Leonardo's Last Supper looked like, some 500 years ago; a task that was primarily based on the Giampetrino copy. He then accessed and translated an unpublished Archive document, which records Rudolf Steiner's astonishing comments about the Zodiac in relation to the Last Supper and the Disciples.
Using the notes of Rudolf Steiner's archive document, and his expertise in anthroposophy together with his scholarship in the Greek of the New Testament, Adrian reveals the various esoteric meanings alluded to in the painting.
The especially re-created version of the Last Supper used in this book is available as an art print.

The mantras of the Michael School are, in the truest sense of the word, a path for modern human beings--and indeed not just for our time between birth and death, but even more so for the time after death in the spiritual world. In that world, every soul that has crossed the threshold will experience beings and events that it can comprehend only if it has learned something on Earth about the beings there and processes that take place between them.
In his eighteenth lesson Rudolf Steiner said, "People who have heard this in esoteric schools on Earth will go through the gate of death and will hear these words again sounding in harmony together--in the esoteric schools here and during the life between death and a new birth there. They will understand what rings forth. Or, people will be dull and unwilling to respond to what the esoteric schools, prepared by general Anthroposophy, have to say. They'll fail to perceive what can be heard through initiation science from the realms of the heights. They pass through the gate of death. There they hear what they should have already heard while here on Earth . . . but they do not understand it. These words of power--when the gods speak to one another--sound to them like an unintelligible clanging, mere cosmic noise."
These words alone, heard in real earnestness, should be enough to dispel any reservations about spreading the teaching of the Michael School. This content does not belong only to those who are closely connected with Anthroposophy and its movement; every seeking human being should be able to find them as a path through life on Earth and after death.

Описание: 14 lectures in Dornach, July 14-August 6, 1922 (CW 340) 6 seminars in Dornach, July 31-August 5, 1922 (CW 341) "In this age of social, economic, and ecological disruption, many people are beginning to realize that perhaps the most important root causes for this crisis originate in an economic thinking that is increasingly out of touch with the social, ecological, and spiritual realities of our time. How, then, can we rethink and redefine the fundamental economic concepts that frame our discussions and shape our key institutions in society today? This is the big question on the table today. Rudolf Steiner's lectures on economics ... offer a largely unused gold mine of fresh economic ideas that could not be more timely and relevant."
--Dr. C. Otto Scharmer, Senior Lecturer at MIT (from the foreword)
"The whole Earth, considered as an economic organism, is the social organism. Yet this is not being taken into account anywhere. It is precisely because of this error that the whole science of political economy has grown so remote from reality. People want to establish principles that are meant to apply only to an individual cell. Hence, if you study the French theory of economy, you will find it is constituted different from English or German or other economic theories. But as economists, what we really need is an understanding of the social organism in its totality." --Rudolf Steiner
Rudolf Steiner gave this complex sequence of dense, subtle, multileveled lectures and seminars to students of economics in Dornach, Switzerland, during the summer of 1922. The course reflects a lifetime of thinking on the subject and marks the conclusion of his intense five-year period of activism in the service of social, political, and economic issues. During this time, which began as World War I was ending in 1917, he worked tirelessly to promote the cause of what he called "threefolding" (Dreigliederung), by which he meant rethinking the social order on the basis of clear separation and independence of the three fundamental spheres of activity that make up a society. He proposed three independent systems:
an autonomous rights sphere (limited to judicial and political matters)
an autonomous economic sphere (cooperative or associative by nature)
and an autonomous spiritual-cultural sphere
The autonomy of these three spheres, he believed, would make possible a free, healthy, productive society and open the possibility of a lasting peace. Rethinking Economics is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the true nature of an economy and how it works. Steiner presents the basic elements of what it would take to create a just, socially responsible, and ecologically aware economy today.
