This invaluable resource is the first simulation guide designed specifically to support the training and evaluation of advanced practice nursing students, novice nurse practitioners, and advanced practice nurses transitioning to new fields. This book provides a method and foundation to transform graduate nursing education to competency-based clinical evaluation, empowering programs with standardized templates and interprofessional education options for each case to advance graduate simulation education and research. This comprehensive guide delivers more than 50 comprehensive case scenarios, written by experienced APRNs, faculty, and simulation specialists. Scenarios are arranged by APRN specialty with applications for students, faculty, standardized patients, staff development and simulation staff who prepare the advanced practice nurse and their interprofessional team for clinical expertise. Not only is this text easy for faculty to use and implement, it also includes several levels of application and offers strategies for adapting scenarios to an interprofessional setting. Each simulation is structured into a consistent template for ease of use and includes a description, objectives, equipment needed, pre-briefing, debriefing, and interprofessional considerations. Additionally, each scenario includes a one-page download designed for the Simulation Team focusing on "what happens" in a particular scenario. These comprehensive simulations encompass a wide variety of valid health and mental health scenarios across the lifespan and include telehealth, critical care transport, and retail scenarios. Three detailed sections dedicated to APRN students, faculty and simulation staff are provided with timely topics as well as sound advice from recent graduates, faculty experts, and leaders in the simulation field. The section for students provides anticipatory guidance for novice practitioners on how best to prepare for formative and summative evaluations, standardized patient interactions, high stakes simulation testing, and interprofessional experiences. The section for faculty provides practical information on how to design engaging simulation experiences for the APRN, and suggestions on mapping the various modes of simulation experiences to the levels and competencies. A detailed section directed at the simulations team covers operations and management of the environment, personnel, equipment, and resources. Key Features: Provides 10 Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) standard scenarios for general advanced practice assessment Contains more than 50 comprehensive simulation scenarios, arranged by APRN specialty for formative, summative, and high stakes testing and competency evaluations Consistent with INASCAL and SSH Simulation Standards of Best Practice and NLN Simulation Theory by Pamela Jeffries Maps simulation experiences to APRN learner levels and AACN competencies Includes separate sections tailored towards APRN students, APRN faculty and staff development, and the simulation operational team Delineates and provides hyperlinks for suggested learner preparation and the most up to date references to support each scenario
Описание: In this book, the authors bring together in one place essential information about college students in the US in the 21st century. Synthesizing existing research and theory, they present an introduction to studying student characteristics, college choice and enrollment patterns, institutional types and environments, student learning, persistence, and outcomes of college.
Substantially revised and updated, this new edition addresses contemporary and anticipated student demographics and enrollment patterns, a wide variety of campus environments (such as residential, commuter, online, hybrid), and a range of outcomes including learning, development, and achievement.
The book is organized around Alexander Astin’s Inputs-Environment-Outputs (I-E-O) framework. Student demographics, college preparation, and enrollment patterns are the ""inputs."" Transition to college and campus environments are the substance of the ""environment."" The ""outputs"" are student development, learning, and retention/persistence/completion.
The authors build on this foundation by providing relevant contemporary information and analysis of students, environments, and outcomes. They also provide strategies for readers to project forward in anticipation of higher education trends in a world where understanding “college students in the United States” is an ongoing project. As a starting point for those who seek a foundational understanding of the diversity of students and institutions in the US, the book includes discussion points, learning activities, and further resources for exploring the topics in each chapter.

Описание: This contributed book explores what actually happens on campus as students from an increasingly wide range of backgrounds enroll and share space.
Over the past few decades universities have opened their doors to students whose parents and grandparents were historically excluded from societal participation and higher education for reasons associated with racial, ethnic, socio-economic and/or linguistic diversity. Many of these students are first generation - or first in their family to attend university. While some progress has been made in responding to the needs of these internationally underserved learners, many challenges remain.
This edited book features the unique and diverse experiences of first generation students as they transition into and engage with higher education whilst exploring ways in which universities might better serve these students. With reference to culturally responsive and sustaining research methodologies undertaken in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK and the USA, the contributors critically examine how these students demonstrate resilience within university, and ways in which success and challenges are articulated. Elements that are unique to context and shared across the international higher education milieu are explored. The book is replete with diverse student voices, and compelling implications for practice and future research.
The studies featured are centred on underlying theories of identity and intersectionality while valuing student voices and experiences. Throughout, the emphasis is on using strengths-based indigenous and decolonised methodologies. Through these culturally sustaining approaches, which include critical incident technique, participatory learning and action, talanoa and narrative inquiry, the book explores rich data on first generation student experiences at seven institutions in six countries across four continents.
