Описание: This book provides an insider`s account of how the Japanese educational system is trying to meet that challenge while placing the developments in a larger international context.
Описание: Offering a critical yet constructive response to the perceived crises in tertiary foreign language education in the Japanese university, the contributors to Bringing Forth a World provide theoretical and practical solutions which together act as a prolegomena to bringing forth a world. Theirs is an ecology of contribution in liberal arts education which takes responsibility for the care for youth, and contests intellectual passivity and indifference in foreign language instruction. The editors proffer a transformative, engaged and multidisciplinary liberal arts pedagogy, one at odds with forms of lowest common denominator, one-size-fits-all, and standardized provision. In response to the prevalent business-dominated model, they demonstrate an applied format of multiliteracy theory—one with semiotic, multimodal, feminist dimensions—which is regionally specific and better accounts for divergent forms of human expression and perception. The writers not only take account of the intellectual and mental issues in the student demographic but also in the teaching profession which suffers from widespread anxiety, job insecurity and a lack of autonomy, experimentation and innovation. Philosophically, the contributors to this book demand a form of meaning-making which is fundamentally social and creative, and which celebrates processes of ‘becoming-other’ in-between the student and teacher that seldom, if ever, follow a predictable trajectory. It is hoped that readers will embrace the spirit of the book, pick up its philosophical gauntlet to think otherwise than prevalent standardized models of teaching and learning, and therefore will use its core tenets to experiment with different ways of educating the youth of today.

Описание: Though there has been much discussion on the academic aspects of Japanese education abroad (e.g., high scores on international tests, lesson study), there has been little information on the non-academic aspects of Japanese schooling. This non-academic aspect is called Tokkatsu (tokubetsu katsudo).Unlike math and reading, Tokkatsu is not confined to a certain period, but extends throughout the school day and even after-school activities -- such as school excursions. It includes classroom activities such as classroom discussions, morning and afternoon meetings that take place daily, cleaning and serving lunch, school events such as sports day, school excursions, student councils, and club activities. Such activities occur every single day, throughout one's school years, from elementary school (actually, even kindergarten) to high school. They are, however, bound together by the common goals of the Tokkatsu framework. This book is the foremost attempt to address a gap in English literature on Tokkatsu.

Описание: In School Leadership for Results Beverly Carbaugh and Robert Marzano update their seminal work to reflect the most up to date literature and understanding of leadership roles and responsibilities. With the right focus and support, leadership skills can be acquired as long as we are committed to helping leaders build the skills they need to succeed. In 2015, School Leadership for Results: Shifting the Focus of Leader Evaluation provided a thorough exploration of the Marzano School Leader Evaluation Model and a practical guide to meeting the challenges of fair and accurate evaluation of instructional leaders. It encouraged schools all over the world to change their approach to leader evaluation, shifting the focus from simple measurement to real, effective evaluation based on growth. Research into school leader evaluation has continued to evolve, and so has the Marzano School Leader Evaluation Model. In School Leadership for Results: A Focused Model, the authors update their seminal work to reflect the most up to date literature and understanding of leadership roles and responsibilities, translating the research into six domains of action every school can take: Keeping a Data-Driven Focus on School Improvement.Teaching a Visible and Guaranteed Curriculum.Fostering Continuous Development of Teachers and Staff.Creating a Community of Care and Collaboration.Maintaining Core Values.Managing Resources Effectively.Effective school leader evaluation is a collaborative, shared process of focused improvement – and it remains the only way to achieve school leadership for results.
