Описание: Practical Strategies for Educational Administrators shares strategies, protocols, and ideas that extend and refine the tools administrators use to enhance the culture and functioning of their organizations. Emphasizing application over theory, the book features numerous vignettes, examples, and authentic documents that effectively model the target concepts and demonstrate how to implement them.Readers learn how to set priorities, lead effective and informative faculty meetings, conduct evaluations and develop appropriate follow-up, make the most of correspondence with faculty, staff, and families, set clear expectations, and clearly identify best practices. All chapters feature a “Big Idea” for administrators to consider, essential questions that frame understanding of the topic, reflection questions, sample documents to serve as models, and application activities. The practical approach of the text, as well as its emphasis on the critical skills and attributes necessary for success in educational leadership, gives readers strategies that can be implemented immediately. Equally useful as either a primary or supplemental text, Practical Strategies for Educational Administrators is ideal for professional development opportunities for current administrators, as well as classes in administrative credentialing programs.

Описание: Research indicates that of the pedagogies recognized as "high impact", learning communities - one approach to which, the linked course, is the subject of this book - lead to an increased level of student engagement in the freshman year that persists through the senior year, and improve retention.
This book focuses on the learning community model that is the most flexible to implement in terms of scheduling, teacher collaboration, and design: the linked course. The faculty may teach independently or together, coordinating syllabi and assignments so that the classes complement each other, and often these courses are linked around a particular interdisciplinary theme. Creating a cohort that works together for two paired courses motivates students, while the course structure promotes integrative learning as students make connections between disciplines.
This volume covers both "linked courses" in which faculty may work to coordinate syllabi and assignments, but teach most of their courses separately, as well as well as "paired courses" in which two or more courses are team taught in an integrated program in which faculty participate as learners as well as teachers.
Part One, Linked Course Pedagogies, includes several case studies of specific linked courses, including a study skills course paired with a worldview course; a community college course that challenges students' compartmentalized thinking; and a paired course whose outcomes can be directly compared to parallel stand-alone courses
Part Two, Linked Course Programs, includes a description of several institutional programs representing a variety of linked course program models. Each chapter includes information about program implementation, staffing logistics and concerns, curriculum development, pedagogical strategies, and faculty development.
Part Three, Assessing Linked Courses, highlights the role of assessment in supporting, maintaining, and improving linked course programs by sharing assessment models and describing how faculty and administrators have used particular assessment practices in order to improve their linked course programs.
Описание: Developing a Trauma-Informed Perspective in School Communities: An Introduction for Educators, School Counselors, and Administrators provides future and current school counselors, educators, and leadership teams with relevant research on brain and human development to assist them in developing a trauma-informed perspective. Readers are encouraged to leverage this knowledge to create positive and formative change within schools and provide effective support for students struggling with potentially traumatic experiences, as well as those without trauma histories to ensure positive and healthy development. The text introduces key topics in brain and trauma research including attachment, neuroscience, adverse childhood experiences, toxic stress, mindfulness, restorative discipline, self-care, and resiliency. Readers learn how to recognize the signs of potential trauma and how to best support individuals exhibiting certain behaviors through a whole-school approach. The text demonstrates how a holistic and collective approach that addresses student behaviors through relationships to encourage development of self-efficacy skills is more effective than the "quick fix" often used to address student issues. Throughout the text, opportunities for personal connection, practice, and reflection underscore key concepts and build relevant knowledge that may be applied to future work with students and school staff.Developing a Trauma-Informed Perspective in School Communities is an ideal supplemental resource for courses and programs in education. It is also a powerful reference for professionals currently working within school and community settings.
Описание: Relationships are everything in successful systems, and connections are cultivated by our actions and our words. Within our words, we contain the power to build relationships or bury them. Those who look for opportunities to converse on significant issues sustain and prosper. However, often times these conversations are cut short by our inability to discover the hidden meanings behind our chosen responses. In today's school systems, educational clich s are ending essential dialogue when they should begin and maintain it. Messages like "That's why you make the big bucks" or "It is what it is" hinder our capacity to construct critical connections with each other. The focus of Clich s, Conversations and Culture: Cultivating Relations Between Teachers and Administrators is to unveil these clich s and explore alternatives that will foster connectedness. By improving our dialogue, we will be able to nurture a more viable culture for our building and bridge the gap that historically exists between administrators and teachers.

Описание: This is the first volume in the re-imagined series Research and Theory in Educational Administration . The volume includes a variety of perspectives written by university professors in the field of educational administration, which moves our thinking beyond the traditional scope of organizational theory and institutional analysis. It is this combination of theory, of new directions in leadership preparation and new narratives of participation that we hope will contribute to a more engaging volume for its readers—graduate students, researchers, and practitioners. The volume will provide evidence of and explanation for changing patterns of institution production explored through academic and epistemic drift. It also provides a deeper understanding of how state regulation is related to the school administrator pipeline or pathways. The concepts explained and illustrated in the volume hopes to provide a better framework for understanding how administrator preparation is unfolding across the U.S. and internationally, as well as the direction of the field of educational administration in the future.
