Описание: This book examines the question of why effective action has been taken to ameliorate some global environmental problems while no improvement has been made on others. This book provides a comprehensive typology of the potential costs and benefits of effective agreements and clarifies the leader`s true interests on particular environmental issues.
Описание: International Negotiations combines three main elements: a comprehensive and detailed overview of all the main theoretical perspectives on the process of international negotiations; a set of case-studies; and a section offering a new communication-oriented approach toward the issue of how domestic politics affect the process of international negotiations.
Описание: This book explores the interplay between formal rules and real world differences, questioning to what extent size-related capacities between states matters for the dynamics and outcomes of negotiations taking place in the United Nations General Assembly, an institution that strongly reflects the one-state, one-vote principle.
Описание: Analysing the relationship between EU unity and effectiveness in multilateral negotiations on food standards, climate change and health, this book develops a new model that simplifies earlier work on `actorness` as well as combining insights from institutionalist, intergovernmentalist and constructivist theories.

Описание:
This book offers a critical review of contemporary literature on the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations. Its goal is to highlight the shortcomings of the methods that have been used to date to analyse the underlying causes that have led to a stalemate in the negotiation process. Further, it pursues an approach that considers the multiple factors that can influence the outcomes of the negotiation process. The book represents a substantial academic contribution to the field of conflict resolution by broadening the scope of the analytical framework that is needed to analyse the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, and bridging the gap between theory and practice. Accordingly, it offers a valuable asset for researchers and students interested in political theory, Middle Eastern studies, international relations, conflict resolution studies, political science, negotiation theory, and contemporary Arab studies and Israeli studies.

Описание: The countries of NATO and the Warsaw Pact have begun to negotiate for nuclear and conventional arms reductions. The world is no longer bipolar, as the arsenals of China, France and Britain become more significant. This book looks at strategic realities and current global and European problems.
Why do some attempts to conclude alliance treaties end in failure? From the inability of European powers to form an alliance that would stop Hitler in the 1930s, to the present inability of Ukraine to join NATO, states frequently attempt but fail to form alliance treaties. In Arguing about Alliances, Paul Poast sheds new light on the purpose of alliance treaties by recognizing that such treaties come from negotiations, and that negotiations can end in failure.
In a book that bridges Stephen Walt's Origins of Alliance and Glenn Snyder's Alliance Politics, two classic works on alliances, Poast identifies two conditions that result in non-agreement: major incompatibilities in the internal war plans of the participants, and attractive alternatives to a negotiated agreement for various parties to the negotiations. As a result, Arguing about Alliances focuses on a group of states largely ignored by scholars: states that have attempted to form alliance treaties but failed. Poast suggests that to explain the outcomes of negotiations, specifically how they can end without agreement, we must pay particular attention to the wartime planning and coordinating functions of alliance treaties. Through his exploration of the outcomes of negotiations from European alliance negotiations between 1815 and 1945, Poast offers a typology of alliance treaty negotiations and establishes what conditions are most likely to stymie the attempt to formalize recognition of common national interests.
