Описание: a very useful resource for courses in nonparametric statistics in which the emphasis is on applications rather than on theory. It also deserves a place in libraries of all institutions where introductory statistics courses are taught.
Описание: This book contains a rich set of tools for nonparametric analyses, and the purpose of this supplemental text is to provide guidance to students and professional researchers onhow R is used for nonparametric data analysis in the biological sciences:To introduce when nonparametricapproaches to data analysis are appropriateTo introduce the leadingnonparametric tests commonly used in biostatistics and how R is used togenerate appropriate statistics for each testTo introduce common figurestypically associated with nonparametric data analysis and how R is used togenerate appropriate figures in support of each data setThe book focuses on how R is used todistinguish between data that could be classified as nonparametric as opposedto data that could be classified as parametric, with both approaches to data classification covered extensively.Following an introductory lesson on nonparametric statistics for the biological sciences, the book is organized into eight self-contained lessons on various analyses and tests using R to broadly compare differences between data sets and statistical approach. This supplemental text is intended for:Upper-level undergraduate and graduate students majoring in the biological sciences, specifically those in agriculture, biology, and health science - both students in lecture-type courses and also those engaged in research projects, such as a master's thesis or a doctoral dissertationAnd biological researchers at the professional level without a nonparametric statistics background but who regularly work with data more suitable to a nonparametric approach to data analysis

Описание: Presents basic nonparametric regression and density estimators and analyzes their properties. This book covers minimax lower bounds, and develops advanced topics such as: Pinsker`s theorem, oracle inequalities, Stein shrinkage, and sharp minimax adaptivity.
Описание: The hypersexual female ghost continues to be a source of fascination in East Asian media, much like the sexually predatory vampire in American and European culture. But while vampires can be of either gender, erotic Chinese ghosts are almost exclusively female. The significance of this gender asymmetry in Chinese literary history is the subject of Judith Zeitlin`s meticulously researched new book.

Описание: Assumes one-semester of calculus. "Stories" make distributions (Normal, Binomial, Poisson that are widely-used in statistics) easier to remember, understand. Many books write down formulas without explaining clearly why these particular distributions are important or how they are all connected.

Описание: Developed from lecture notes and ready to be used for a course on the graduate level, this concise text aims to introduce the fundamental concepts of nonparametric estimation theory while maintaining the exposition suitable for a first approach in the field.
Описание: An overview of the asymptotic theory of optimal nonparametric tests is presented in this book. It covers a wide range of topics: Neyman-Pearson and LeCam's theories of optimal tests, the theories of empirical processes and kernel estimators with extensions of their applications to the asymptotic behavior of tests for distribution functions, densities and curves of the nonparametric models defining the distributions of point processes and diffusions. With many new test statistics developed for smooth curves, the reliance on kernel estimators with bias corrections and the weak convergence of the estimators are useful to prove the asymptotic properties of the tests, extending the coverage to semiparametric models. They include tests built from continuously observed processes and observations with cumulative intervals.

Описание: This book presents a systematic and unified approach for modern nonparametric treatment of missing and modified data via examples of density and hazard rate estimation, nonparametric regression, filtering signals, and time series analysis. All basic types of missing at random and not at random, biasing, truncation, censoring, and measurement errors are discussed, and their treatment is explained. Ten chapters of the book cover basic cases of direct data, biased data, nondestructive and destructive missing, survival data modified by truncation and censoring, missing survival data, stationary and nonstationary time series and processes, and ill-posed modifications. The coverage is suitable for self-study or a one-semester course for graduate students with a prerequisite of a standard course in introductory probability. Exercises of various levels of difficulty will be helpful for the instructor and self-study. The book is primarily about practically important small samples. It explains when consistent estimation is possible, and why in some cases missing data should be ignored and why others must be considered. If missing or data modification makes consistent estimation impossible, then the author explains what type of action is needed to restore the lost information. The book contains more than a hundred figures with simulated data that explain virtually every setting, claim, and development. The companion R software package allows the reader to verify, reproduce and modify every simulation and used estimators. This makes the material fully transparent and allows one to study it interactively. Sam Efromovich is the Endowed Professor of Mathematical Sciences and the Head of the Actuarial Program at the University of Texas at Dallas. He is well known for his work on the theory and application of nonparametric curve estimation and is the author of Nonparametric Curve Estimation: Methods, Theory, and Applications. Professor Sam Efromovich is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the American Statistical Association.
