Описание:
Adaptive Designs for Sequential Treatment Allocation presents a rigorous theoretical treatment of the results and mathematical foundation of adaptive design theory. The book focuses on designing sequential randomized experiments to compare two or more treatments incorporating information accrued along the way.
The authors first introduce the terminology and statistical models most commonly used in comparative experiments. They then illustrate biased coin and urn designs that only take into account past treatment allocations as well as designs that use past data, such as sequential maximum likelihood and various types of doubly adaptive designs. The book also covers multipurpose adaptive experiments involving utilitarian choices and ethical issues. It ends with adaptive methods that include covariates in the design. The appendices present basic tools of optimal design theory and address Bayesian adaptive designs.
This book helps readers fully understand the theoretical properties behind various adaptive designs. Readers are then equipped to choose the best design for their experiment.
Описание: This book provides an up-to-date review of the general principles of and techniques for confirmatory adaptive designs. Confirmatory adaptive designs are a generalization of group sequential designs. With these designs, interim analyses are performed in order to stop the trial prematurely under control of the Type I error rate. In adaptive designs, it is also permissible to perform a data-driven change of relevant aspects of the study design at interim stages. This includes, for example, a sample-size reassessment, a treatment-arm selection or a selection of a pre-specified sub-population. Essentially, this adaptive methodology was introduced in the 1990s. Since then, it has become popular and the object of intense discussion and still represents a rapidly growing field of statistical research. This book describes adaptive design methodology at an elementary level, while also considering designing and planning issues as well as methods for analyzing an adaptively planned trial. This includes estimation methods and methods for the determination of an overall p-value. Part I of the book provides the group sequential methods that are necessary for understanding and applying the adaptive design methodology supplied in Parts II and III of the book. The book contains many examples that illustrate use of the methods for practical application. The book is primarily written for applied statisticians from academia and industry who are interested in confirmatory adaptive designs. It is assumed that readers are familiar with the basic principles of descriptive statistics, parameter estimation and statistical testing. This book will also be suitable for an advanced statistical course for applied statisticians or clinicians with a sound statistical background.

Описание:
Interactively Run Simulations and Experiment with Real or Simulated Data to Make Sequential Analysis Come Alive
Taking an accessible, nonmathematical approach to this field, Sequential Methods and Their Applications illustrates the efficiency of sequential methodologies when dealing with contemporary statistical challenges in many areas.
The book first explores fixed sample size, sequential probability ratio, and nonparametric tests. It then presents numerous multistage estimation methods for fixed-width confidence interval as well as minimum and bounded risk problems. The book also describes multistage fixed-size confidence region methodologies, selection methodologies, and Bayesian estimation. Through diverse applications, each chapter provides valuable approaches for performing statistical experiments and facilitating real data analysis.
Functional in a variety of statistical problems, the authors' interactive computer programs show how the methodologies discussed can be implemented in data analysis. Each chapter offers examples of input, output, and their interpretations. Available online, the programs provide the option to save some parts of an output so readers can revisit computer-generated data for further examination with exploratory data analysis.
Through this book and its computer programs, readers will better understand the methods of sequential analysis and be able to use them in real-world settings.
