A marriage usually deteriorates slowly, after months or years of simmering tension and poor communication.
Divorce and parental separation has been associated with a range of negative outcomes affecting all those involved in the process. But why is it particularly difficult for men, as multiple studies indicate it to be? How could men and women create a support system that will not only help the couple overcome challenges related to the split, but also help children cope with their parent's separation?
Marriage has been directly associated with men's health. 66% of men rely on their wives for their primary social support. Thus, divorce greatly increases a man's sense of isolation.
Divorce will mess you up in ways you never imagined and at times when you least expect it. You can have three or four days in a row where you're focused on other parts of your life like your career or your children and then...BOOM You wake up one morning and you're drowning in emotional quicksand.
This book explores what happens to some men when, despite the best of intentions and heroic efforts on all sides, a marriage ends in divorce.
The Vietnam War was the longest war in American history. The conflict began gradually after World War II. The Eisenhower administration supported southern Vietnam and increased American aid after the fall of a fortress at Dien Bien Phu to nationalist leader Ho Chi Minh in 1954. John F. Kennedy continued the commitment of American "advisors" through 1963. Lyndon B. Johnson chose to escalate the conflict dramatically after the Gulf of Tonkin incident in 1964. American troop levels peaked in 1968 at over half a million soldiers. Also in 1968, the T t offensive demonstrated to the American public that their leaders' claims of progress were false and that the conflict was not worth the cost. Assassinations, riots, and the revelation of the My Lai massacre further added to public discontent, and with the election of 1969, Richard Nixon promised to end the war "with honor." Four long years later, American and Vietnamese leaders signed a peace treaty. The war cost over fifty thousand American lives, and many considered it a military defeat and moral failure. The conflict concluded with the 1975 reunification of Vietnam, but the war lingered in the minds of Americans. The Vietnam War remains a powerful memory in American culture because the conflict was a turning point in recent American history.
This book is a comprehensive study of the content, author demographics, publishing history, and media representation of the most prominent Vietnam veteran memoirs published between 1967 and 2005. These personal narratives are important because they have affected the collective memory of the Vietnam War for decades.
On June 23, 2016, the United Kingdom called its voters at the polls to vote on a referendum on the country's stay in the European Union. 51.89% of voters voted for Leave, the exit against 48.11 in favor of Remain, the permanence, with a turnout of 71.8% of the electorate (over 30 million people ). The country was very divided. Scotland (62%), London (59.9%), Northern Ireland (55.8%), and the overseas territory of Gibraltar (95.9%) were in favor of Remain. The vote also appeared very divided demographically, with young people between 18-24 and 25-34 years old who voted 73% and 62% respectively to stay in Europe.
In this book, I investigate the situation wherein the United Kingdom withdraws its membership of the European Union, concentrating on the economic consequences thereof. I describe the UK's history with the EU and the possible frameworks for their future relationship. I produce analyses of the economic changes to UK trade, with a focus on the benefits of the Single Market, the City of London and the financial sector, and the labor market in response to changes in immigration. I discuss the probability of each possible future relationship based on UK and EU preferences, evaluate the consequences for the UK. Overall, my findings suggest that the UK will negotiate a Free Trade Agreement with the EU, yet will suffer significant economic repercussions from exiting the Union. This is largely because the UK will have to give up sovereignty in trade for market access, and the UK is disinclined to do so.
Vikings are a part of everyday life. For a people who lived around a thousand years ago, their omnipresence is remarkable. They are a marketing device, a tourist attraction, and a subject on the national curriculum. They appear at museums, Viking festivals, and in comic strips, films, novels, and children's history books. They are a focus of academic controversy, with scholars waging an ongoing war over the proper interpretations of the Viking past, and they lend themselves readily to use in constructing various national and regional identities.
Vikings are a vibrant part of modern popular culture. Although the Viking Age ended nearly a millennium ago, today Viking images are everywhere, functioning as marketing devices, role models, and sources of regional/national pride and identity. This book examines the causes of the Vikings' adoption as icons of popular culture and looks at the various ways in which Vikings are used.
The book also turns to a chronological overview of political, literary, and archaeological developments that have influenced the evolution of Viking images.
★★★ Some ministers preach...some get locked and loaded ★★★
Reverend Spracklin was a gangster's worst nightmare. Known to the press and public as the 'Fighting Parson', he and his handpicked squad of dry agents burst into the roadhouses of Essex County with pistols drawn and fists clenched.
They chased liquor-laden vehicles through dark city streets and along rough country roads, and intercepted rumrunners on the Detroit River in their high-powered speedboat, the Panther II.
The minister went, often alone, into the most dangerous nightspots of 1920s Windsor, and responded to opposition by punching, not preaching.
He thought nothing of carrying around a stack of blank search warrants and filling them out himself as needed. He could not be scared or bought, and he survived one assassination attempt after another. It was only when a roadhouse owner who also happened to be a long-time enemy died at his hands that the campaign was finally stopped.
His life is told in this short book.

Описание:
Abraham Lincoln, a self-taught lawyer, legislator, and vocal opponent of slavery was elected 16th president of the United States in November 1860, shortly before the outbreak of the Civil War. Lincoln proved to be a shrewd military strategist and a savvy leader: His Emancipation Proclamation paved the way for slavery's abolition, while his Gettysburg Address stands as one of the most famous pieces of oratory in American history. In April 1865, with the Union on the brink of victory, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln's assassination made him a martyr to the cause of liberty, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest presidents in U.S. history.
Grief is a natural response to loss. It's the emotional suffering you feel when something or someone you love is taken away. Often, the pain of loss can feel overwhelming. You may experience all kinds of difficult and unexpected emotions, from shock or anger to disbelief, guilt, and profound sadness. The pain of grief can also disrupt your physical health, making it difficult to sleep, eat, or even think straight. These are normal reactions to loss-and the more significant the loss, the more intense your grief will be.
Coping with the loss of someone or something you love is one of life's biggest challenges. You may associate grieving with the death of a loved one-which is often the cause of the most intense type of grief-but any loss can cause grief
Although the experience of grief and how one grieves may be unique to the individual, they are influenced by relational, cultural, and spiritual beliefs.
Despite a universal familiarity with death and grief, the capacity to articulate the meaning of grief challenges even premier scholars in the fields of psychology, sociology, theology, and anthropology.
This book has been motivated and inspired by a lifetime relationship with death and the awareness that our contemporary understanding of dying, which lacks a multivalent language, is inadequate.
