Описание: A Child's Garden of Verses is a book written by Robert Louis Stevenson - it is here accompanied by the splendid illustrations of Jessie Willcox Smith. Stevenson (1850 - 1894), was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist and travel writer, most famous for penning Treasure Island, and the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. His A Child's Garden of Verses is a collection of poetry, which first appeared in 1885, under the title of Penny Whistles. It contains about 65 poems including the cherished classics 'Foreign Children', 'The Lamplighter', 'The Land of Counterpane', 'Bed in Summer', 'My Shadow' and 'The Swing'. Jessie Willcox Smith (1863 - 1935) was one of the most prominent female illustrators in the United States during the Golden Age of American Illustration. She was also a prolific contributor to literary novels and magazines during the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Most notable was her ongoing relationship with Good Housekeeping, including the long-running 'Mother Goose' series. Smith's style changed drastically through her life. In the beginning of her career she used dark lined borders to delineate brightly coloured objects, and in later works she masterfully softened lines and colours - until they almost disappeared. Presented alongside the text, her illustrations bring further joy to Robert Louis Stevenson's poetry. Pook Press celebrates the great 'Golden Age of Illustration' in children's literature - a period of unparalleled excellence in book illustration. We publish rare and vintage Golden Age illustrated books, in high-quality colour editions, so that the masterful artwork and story-telling can continue to delight both young and old.

Travel with Olympic gold medalist Jessie Diggins on her compelling journey from America’s heartland to international sports history, navigating challenges and triumphs with rugged grit and a splash of glitter
Pyeongchang, February 21, 2018. In the nerve-racking final seconds of the women’s team sprint freestyle race, Jessie Diggins dug deep. Blowing past two of the best sprinters in the world, she stretched her ski boot across the finish line and lunged straight into Olympic immortality: the first ever cross-country skiing gold medal for the United States at the Winter Games. The 26-year-old Diggins, a four-time World Championship medalist, was literally a world away from the small town of Afton, Minnesota, where she first strapped on skis. Yet, for all her history-making achievements, she had never strayed far from the scrappy 12-year-old who had insisted on portaging her own canoe through the wilderness, yelling happily under the unwieldy weight on her shoulders: “Look! I’m doing it!”
In Brave Enough, Jessie Diggins reveals the true story of her journey from the American Midwest into sports history. With candid charm and characteristic grit, she connects the dots from her free-spirited upbringing in the woods of Minnesota to racing in the bright spotlights of the Olympics. Going far beyond stories of races and ribbons, she describes the challenges and frustrations of becoming a serious athlete; learning how to push through and beyond physical and psychological limits; and the intense pressure of competing at the highest levels. She openly shares her harrowing struggle with bulimia, recounting both the adversity and how she healed from it in order to bring hope and understanding to others experiencing eating disorders.
Between thrilling accounts of moments of triumph, Diggins shows the determination it takes to get there—the struggles and disappointments, the fun and the hard work, and the importance of listening to that small, fierce voice: I can do it. I am brave enough.

The Mediterranean diet, an extremely well-known and proven healthy diet, remains poorly understood. When we ask a large number of people what is the "Mediterranean diet," it is doubtful that we will get much of the same answer. The Mediterranean diet is not a weight-loss program, despite its name. It's a way to eat, and a way of life. It is descriptive, rather than prescriptive. Describes one particular pattern of feeding. Even the opinions of the nutritionists vary on Mediterranean diet specifics. But the basics are simple. It is an eating style that includes large quantities of fruits and vegetables, legumes like lentils, peas and beans, whole grains, and olive oil, of course. Fish and seafood are part of the Mediterranean diet, but in the past, their intake has varied depending on how close people were to the sea. The Mediterranean diet also contains chicken, eggs and small amounts of dairy products such as yogurt and cheese. Red meat and sweets are seldom included in the diet set out in the Mediterranean diet. It does, however, include red wine which moderately accompanies the meals. The past's Mediterranean menu also included bread, rice, and potatoes. An authentic Mediterranean diet is not composed of preservatives. It features a variety of fresh, unprocessed foods that are enriched with substantial olive oil content. We know when to stop using the olive oil to spice our dishes. And when fats, in the form of trans fats, are contained in processed foods-we still overuse amounts so harm our health.Mediterranean diet protects us from heart disease and improves health. One of the key findings of this study is that the fascination with superfood is not the right direction. People who believe that eating certain foods like kale or chia definitely takes care of their health are incorrect. Focusing on and excluding single foods or food groups, like sugar and fat, from the menu is also wrong. The study proves that having a balanced menu is the most effective way of caring for our health. Menu featuring a selection of foods. Eating was fed to the Mediterranean peoples. This diet protects us against diabetes and cardiovascular disease and helps to keep us from losing weight. The Mediterranean diet represents a potential solution to the overweight problem. Unfortunately, most people do not understand their existence and eat as defined. There is no question that the Mediterranean diet is very good for our health and figure, but it is not an easy task to change our habits. In a community where packaged foods and semi-finished products are starting to dominate, efforts are needed to start consuming regularly fresh, cooked food.
