Описание: Mere decades after the dissolution of Yugoslavia, the promise of European democracy seems to be out of joint. What has become of the once-shared memory of victory over fascism? Historical revisionism and nationalist propaganda in the post-Yugoslav context have tried to eradicate the legacy of partisan and socialist struggles, while Yugonostalgia commodifies the partisan/socialist past. It is against these dominant ‘archives’ that this book launches the partisan counter-archive, highlighting the symbolic power of artistic works that echo and envision partisan legacy and rupture. It comprises a body of works that emerged either during the people's liberation struggle or in later socialist periods, tracing a counter-archival surplus and revolutionary remainder that invents alternative protocols of remembrance and commemoration. The book covers rich (counter-)archival material – from partisan poems, graphic works and photography, to monuments and films – and ends by describing the recent revisionist un-doing of the partisan past. It contributes to the Yugoslav politico-aesthetical “history of the oppressed” as an alternative journey to the partisan past that retrieves revolutionary resources from the past for the present.
Описание: I was born into a large, humble and hardworking family. The onset of the Second World War broke the family up and we had to obey the voice of the dominating occupator; I was pulled away from home and had to go to the other end of Europe, to serve in the German forces, even though my heart was at home in Slovenia, and with the partisans. I, like many, observed and searched for any way to desert the German army and return home, to Slovenia. Even though it was a risky and treacherous move to make, I succeeded. It was a huge step to make too; from one of the largest and most dominating forces in the World at that time, and into a solitary, independent army, which had to stand on the strength of its own feet to sustain its self, for there was no government behind it, to hold it up. To keep moving was a strategy of survival, with armies and opposing forces constantly breathing down our necks, from all sides. This made for many breathtaking adventures. Even though we were a solitary army, we were entrusted with a number of tasks and missions such as "The flight of the Crow", and with our presence and achievements, stamped our place into the history of the nation and the World.
Описание: Between 1914 and the present day the political makeup of the Balkans has relentlessly changed, following unpredictable shifts of international and internal borders. Between and across these borders various political communities were formed, co-existed and (dis)integrated. By analysing one hundred years of modern citizenship in Yugoslavia and post-Yugoslav states, Igor Stiks shows that the concept and practice of citizenship is necessary to understand how political communities are made, un-made and re-made.
