Описание: By 2020, half of the world’s population and most university students will have a supercomputer in their pockets. This revolution will affect the way students respond to higher education. The university classroom must henceforth engage students, and the classic lecture format alone might not be enough to do so. This book answers the question how university students can learn in the classroom what they cannot learn in any other way. The answer is inspired by options that are not available to political scientists – in the way that they are in the laboratories for the sciences, in the performances for the live arts, and in the studios for visual arts – as well as ideas that are already present, but not widespread in the discipline: problem-solving and case studies, as in the professional schools, and simulation exercises in many other disciplines. This book proposes therefore an active pedagogy for political science, at a time when active pedagogy is more important than ever.Prof. Laure Paquette, PhD, has been a visiting researcher or professor in 23 countries. She has advised several foreign governments as well as her own, Canada, and has published extensively in four languages. This is her sixteenth book.

Описание: Research in neuroscience and brain imaging show that exposure of learners to multi-semiotic problems enhance cognitive control of inter-hemispheric attentional processing in the lateral brain and increase higher-order thinking. Multi-semiotic representations of conceptual meaning are found in most knowledge domains where issues of quantity, structure, space, and change play important roles, including applied sciences and social science. Teaching courses in History and Theory of Architecture to young architecture students with pedagogy for conceptual thinking allows them to connect analysis of historic artifact, identify pattern of design ideas extracted from the precedent, and transfer concepts of good design into their creative design process. Pedagogy for Conceptual Thinking and Meaning Equivalence: Emerging Research and Opportunities is a critical scholarly resource that demonstrates an instructional and assessment methodology that enhances higher-order thinking, deepens comprehension of conceptual content, and improves learning outcomes. Based on the rich literature on word meaning and concept formation in linguistics and semiotics, and in developmental and cognitive psychology, it shows how independent studies in these disciplines converge on the necessary clues for constructing a procedure for the demonstration of mastery of knowledge with equivalence-of-meaning across multiple representations. Featuring a wide range of topics such as curriculum design, learning outcomes, and STEM education, this book is essential for curriculum developers, instructional designers, teachers, administrators, education professionals, academicians, policymakers, and researchers.

Описание:
Pedagogy of Life takes its readers through the echoing stories of the half-century, historical Cultural Revolution of China to the literate lifeworld today. Rosa Hong Chen offers a gripping array of personal and kindred stories woven into the power of words and empathy of art through the volutes of writing and dancing for life, expressing genera of warm melancholy, weighty sensations, compulsive sobs, and refrained elation. It is for the existential history of individual lives and communal sharing that life creates a pedagogical condition of possible experiences. Life itself forms a historical and social path of human growth and maturation. In a philosophical and educational autoethnographical inquiry, the author examines the nature of literacy for those marginalized and oppressed; Chen explores how one’s name and the ways in which that name is used affect a person’s self-knowing and knowing of the world. This book exemplifies the idea that individuals’ autobiographical stories are importantly connected to wider cultural, political, and social meaning and understanding. Pedagogy of Life echoes readers’ musings, affects, relations, imagination, choice, learning, teaching, and much more, because we, each and all, have our own names, ways of uttering, writing, and dancing, and, ultimately, our own ways of living, knowing, and becoming.

Описание:
The Dynamic Student Development Metatheodel(DSDM) is a meta-theory based on empirically based inferences drawn from a national survey entitled the University Learning Outcomes Assessment (UniLOA). The UniLOA’s current dataset consists of over 500,000 college student participants and has supported impressive findings that allow for the reconceptualization of long-held cultural artifacts and assumptions regarding the way students grow, learn, and develop (GLD) and how decision makers within postsecondary education have selected to engage the domains of student development measured by the UniLOA. This book champions a model of student success. The DSDM was developed from common factors identified in multiple theories and models within the areas of human and student development as well as empirically based theories and models of education. By first defining complementary elements within the theories and models then establishing accurate operational definitions, the planning and engagement of appropriate services, supports, interventions, and programs (SSIPs) and the active assessment of their outcomes can lead to a more effective response to current challenges faced by higher educators. As a metamodel, the DSDM reconceptualizes student success within higher education that is disruptive to the current accepted paradigm of student learning and engagement. This book is intended for faculty and staff interested in critical debate about issues in higher education and for deliberation by graduate students in college administration programs.
