Powell draw on research in both the communication and education disciplines, and provide useful strategies for improving teaching practices alongside theoretical models regarding diversity in the classroom. Much of the information found in this text is also inspired by the authors' direct experience in schools and from the experience they have gleaned from other first-line instructors as well as from parents and children.
Among the many updates to this Third Edition are:
Expanded coverage of students with diverse needs
Discussion on working effectively with parents

Описание: What if what you know about God just ain't so? Portals can be rather inconspicuous and elusive, but when we find one of these obscure openings, we discover that it can be a divine door that ushers us out of darkness and despair into a whole new dimension of freedom. Unfortunately, because of negative encounters we may have had with churchy people or the guilt and condemnation we may have suffered under religious teaching, we end up being driven away, and rightly so, from any further involvement with religion. A portal (for the purpose of this book) symbolizes a gateway of knowledge and understanding into God's grace and truth intended to bring to light the gospel of Jesus Christ to lead us out from behind the iron bars of false beliefs that may be enslaving us. This book was written to display God's prismatic promises and the biblical wisdom God has provided for us as answers and antidotes to the various problems we may encounter in life.

Описание: This book listens to the voices of post-school teachers, managers, theorists, trainees, teacher educators and students talking about the battle against being educated.
College athletes are at the very center of emerging campus debates over their legal, financial, and academic role. Amid ongoing litigation and pressure from internal and external stakeholders, many policy makers and university leaders are scrambling to determine the nature of this role. This timely and comprehensive volume identifies and discusses bylaws and legal decisions that have impacted the college athlete's ability to pursue higher education. It also explains and critiques the formal policies of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and member institutions while examining critical issues relevant to the growing fields of sport management, athletic administration, and sports law.
Aimed at anyone seeking to enhance their understanding of the intercollegiate athletics landscape, College Athletes' Rights and Well-Being is divided into four sections. The first lays out the historical foundations that have shaped the intercollegiate athletic experience. Subsequent sections describe the principles, structures, and conditions that influence how athletes experience campus life, as well as the increasingly commercialized business enterprise of college sports.
Told from the perspective of athletes and written by leading scholars and researchers, the book's sixteen chapters are enhanced with useful lists of key terms and conversation-provoking discussion questions. Touching on everything from concussion protocols and collective bargaining to amateurism, Title IX's gender-separate allowance, and conference realignment, this important book is designed for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students, scholars, educators, practitioners, policy makers, athletic administrators, and advocates of college athletes.

Описание: Interest in knowledge integration grew considerably in recent years, particularly within the realm of pre-service teacher education. However, studies on the topic conceptualize knowledge integration in diverse ways. For example, it may be conceived as a specific coherence-building learning process which involves not only acquiring but interrelating knowledge of different types (e.g., theoretical and practical) or from different domains, which together constitute a teacher’s or educational specialist’s professional knowledge base (e.g., content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, knowledge about using technologies for learning and instruction, etc.). Furthermore, knowledge integration also refers to the meaningful application of knowledge of different types and from various domains in order to act professionally and to teach successfully.
In many countries, however, future teachers and educational specialists often struggle with knowledge integration, because the task of integrating knowledge across domains, from various courses, and from practical training is left largely to the individuals. Thus, the efficacy and quality of higher education programs, particularly in pre-service teacher education, could be improved through careful attention to knowledge integration.
International Perspectives on Knowledge Integration aims at facilitating the consideration of knowledge integration in teacher training and higher education in both research and practice. Specifically, it explores theoretical conceptions and methods, and reports on original research and good practices for fostering knowledge integration. It is thus of interest to researchers, faculty board members, and lecturers concerned with teacher training and higher education, as well as to student-teachers and students of pedagogy, education, and educational psychology.
