Описание: This document provides guidance on the management of natural and planted forests and woodlands in displacement settings, taking into account different indicators, including wood fuel demand and supply; land suitability; land tenure; livelihood opportunities; the prerequisites of suitable nursery and plantation sites; tree species selection; nursery establishment and management; plantation establishment and management; and monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
The massive increase in demand for woodfuel for cooking caused by sudden influxes of refugees and other displaced people is usually the main driver of forest degradation and deforestation in displacement settings. It places enormous pressure on nearby forests and woodlands and is often a source of tension between the host and displaced communities. A lack of sufficient cooking fuel also has an impact on the nutrition and health of vulnerable people in such settings.
A planning approach to the use of forest resources is crucial for building resilience and enabling sustainable development in both displaced and host communities. In particular, well-planned forestry interventions can ensure a sustainable supply of woodfuel, timber and non-wood forest products for those communities, fostering their well-being. Forests and trees also underpin core ecosystem services such as freshwater supply, soil stability and fertility, agro-biodiversity and biodiversity conservation, all of which contribute to the resilience of communities.

Описание: Landscapes are being degraded and simplified across the globe. This book explores how forest restoration might be carried out to increase landscape heterogeneity, improve ecological functioning and restore ecosystem services in such landscapes.
Описание: The aim of this manual is to enhance understanding of ecosystem services and their valuation. The specific target group comprises governmental officers in planning units and field-level officers and practitioners in key government departments in Bangladesh responsible for project development, including the Ministry of Environment and Forests and its agencies. Most of the examples and case studies presented herein, therefore, are tailored to the Bangladesh context, but the general concepts, approaches and methods can be applied to a broad spectrum of situations. This manual focuses on valuing forest-related ecosystem services, including those provided by trees outside forests. It is expected to improve valuation efforts and help ensure the better use of such values in policymaking and decision making.

Описание: Forest landscape restoration (FLR) is a planned process that aims to regain ecological integrity and enhance human wellbeing in deforested or degraded landscapes. The aim of this book is to better understand the need to take human and institutional factors, as well as the more obvious biophysical, into consideration in FLR.

Описание: This assessment examines the status of, and trends in, forest resources over the period 1990–2020, drawing on the efforts of hundreds of experts worldwide. The production of this publication is a collaborative effort among many partner organizations, thereby reducing the reporting burden on countries, increasing synergies among reporting processes, and improving data consistency.
FAO completed its first assessment of the world’s forest resources in 1948. At that time, its major objective was to collect information on available timber supply to satisfy post-war reconstruction demand. Since then, the Global Forest Resources Assessment has evolved into a comprehensive evaluation of forest resources and their condition, management and uses, covering all the thematic elements of sustainable forest management.
The results of this assessment are available in several formats, including this report and an online database containing the original inputs of countries and territories, as well as desk studies and regional and global analyses prepared by FAO.
Описание: Provides practical guidance for carrying out forest vulnerability assessments in the context of climate change. The publication describes the elements to be considered for different time horizons and outlines a structured approach for conducting assessments.
Описание: Since the first assessment in 1948, the report has evolved into a comprehensive assessment of forest resources, their condition, management and use. The report covers all the substantive elements of sustainable forest management. One of the main results of this version is continued deforestation, although it has decreased in the past five years.
Описание: The "Global Forest Goals Report 2021" is the first flagship publication produced by the UN Forum on Forests Secretariat of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The publication presents an overview of progress towards achieving the Global Forest Goals and associated targets of the United Nations Strategic Plan for Forests. It provides a summary of actions taken and challenges encountered by Member States in their efforts to achieve the Global Forest Goals and highlights the areas of progress and areas where more action is required. The publication also highlights how progress toward the Global Forests Goals contributed to progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and outlines several "success stories" to illustrate best practice and innovative ideas. The publication is based on fifty-two national reports submitted by Member States to the fifteenth session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF15) as well as nineteen voluntary national contributions announced by Member States. This information from national reports is also supplemented with bio-physical data from FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment 2020.
Описание: Presents the forest resources and the forest sector of the Caucasus and Central Asia, including trends in, and pressures on the resource, to describe the policies and institutions for the forest sector in the region and to list the major challenges the sector faces, and the policy responses in place or planned.
Описание: Este informe ofrece una evaluación exhaustiva de los recursos forestales y sus condiciones, gestión y usos. Una de las principales conclusiones de esta edición es que, aunque la deforestación continúa, se ha reducido en los últimos cinco años.

Описание:
Plantation forests often have a negative image. They are typically assumed to be poor substitutes for natural forests, particularly in terms of biodiversity conservation, carbon storage, provision of clean drinking water and other non-timber goods and services. Often they are monocultures that do not appear to invite people for recreation and other direct uses. Yet as this book clearly shows, they can play a vital role in the provision of ecosystem services, when compared to agriculture and other forms of land use or when natural forests have been degraded.
This is the first book to examine explicitly the non-timber goods and services provided by plantation forests, including soil, water and biodiversity conservation, as well as carbon sequestration and the provision of local livelihoods. The authors show that, if we require a higher provision of ecosystem goods and services from both temperate and tropical plantations, new approaches to their management are required. These include policies, methods for valuing the services, the practices of small landholders, landscape approaches to optimise delivery of goods and services, and technical issues about how to achieve suitable solutions at the scale of forest stands. While providing original theoretical insights, the book also gives guidance for plantation managers, policy-makers, conservation practitioners and community advocates, who seek to promote or strengthen the multiple-use of forest plantations for improved benefits for society. Описание: This report, which covers countries in Asia and the Pacific, looks at cosmetics and beauty products based on non-wood forest products (NWFPs). Case studies examine specific NWFPs and the contexts in which they are collected, processed and marketed, with the aim of encouraging cross-sectoral discussions on forests and beauty products.
The use of plant extracts in cosmetics is increasing, mainly due to growing interest in the use of natural products as opposed to synthetic alternatives. Plant-based products have become popular choices in modern markets. Many facial creams, soaps, shower gels and oils rely on natural products from forests. A classic example is aloe vera, which is widely used in the preparation of a variety of products.
While drawing attention to the role of forests in supplying beauty products and the significance of this for livelihood security, this study also provides recommendations on ensuring equitable arrangements between forest communities and industry players.
