Описание: This Open-Access book investigates corporate diplomacy as a legitimation strategy of multinational companies in the United Arab Emirates. The author applies a neo-institutional public relations perspective, according to which societal expectations significantly shape corporate diplomacy communication. Using a multi-method research design, the author shows how corporate diplomacy is used in the host country, what role local media coverage and relationship management fulfill, and what effects corporate diplomacy has on corporate legitimacy in the host country community, i.e., UAE residents. The findings provide substantial insights into how multinational corporations seek legitimacy through corporate diplomacy and demonstrate how these efforts and the legitimation of corporations are affected by the media and the host countrys public.

Описание: This study addresses the corporate cultural practices of German companies in the host country Indonesia from the perspective of Indonesian employees, managers and German expatriates. The focus is on the intercultural challenges that arise in the practice of daily cooperation between Indonesian and German organizational members. Using qualitative methods, the study examines how these challenges are viewed and managed by organizational members, what cultural differences are evident in them and how these differences can be explained, and finally, what strategies can be used to overcome the challenges in everyday business. This ethnographic study is based on interviews with Indonesian and German organizational members, analysis of internal company journals and newsletters, and observations collected by the author as a "professional stranger" at Indonesian sites of German multinational companies. The study concludes that four cultural issues are fundamental factors in the corporate culture of German companies in the host country Indonesia: first, the implementation of a culture of integrity; second, issues of leadership in a hierarchy-driven social environment; third, the daily use of language and the flow of information in a multilingual professional environment; and finally, the creation and maintenance of harmonious, family-like working relationships.

Описание: The Democratic Republic of Congo is endowed with immense mineral wealth. Its minerals include cobalt, copper, diamond, gold, iron, manganese, tantalum, tin, tungsten, and zinc. Yet the contribution of mineral abundance to the country's economic development is poor. The Congolese mining sector was initiated in 1905 with the creation of OKIMO (Office des Mines d'or de Kilo Moto) and UMHK (Union Mini re du Haut-Katanga). The rapid development of mining companies improved economic growth until 1973, when President Mobutu introduced a variety of inadequate economic policies, including zairianization and radicalization, that slowed down economic development. The actual mining code was adopted in 2002 to enhance a mining sector that already collapsed. This study suggests a variety of mechanisms and measures that are meant to energize the Congolese mining sector and, hence, allow the country to benefit entirely from its mineral abundance.
