Описание:

In the familiar tale of mass migration to France from 1880 onward, we know very little about the hundreds of thousands of women who formed a critical part of those migration waves. In Reproductive Citizens, Nimisha Barton argues that their relative absence in the historical record hints at a larger and more problematic oversight—the role of sex and gender in shaping the experiences of migrants to France before the Second World War.

Bartons compelling history of social citizenship demonstrates how, through the routine application of social policies, state and social actors worked separately toward a shared goal: repopulating France with immigrant families. Filled with voices gleaned from census reports, municipal statistics, naturalization dossiers, court cases, police files, and social worker registers, Reproductive Citizens shows how France welcomed foreign-born men and women—mobilizing naturalization, family law, social policy, and welfare assistance to ensure they would procreate, bearing French-assimilated children. Immigrants often embraced these policies because they, too, stood to gain from pensions, family allowances, unemployment benefits, and French nationality. By striking this bargain, they were also guaranteed safety and stability on a tumultuous continent.

Barton concludes that, in return for generous social provisions and refuge in dark times, immigrants joined the French nation through marriage and reproduction, breadwinning and child-rearing—in short, through families and family-making—which made them more French than even formal citizenship status could.

Описание: Pi-conjugated polymers (PCPs) are organic macromolecular systems characterized by backbone chains with alternating single and double bonds and are fascinating materials for energy-related applications. The first chapter shall help those readers who are new to the domain of PCPs to assimilate the fundamental features and the excellent opportunities associated with such macrosystems. Chapter 2 focuses on a special and growing class of PCPs -- heavy main group element containing heterocyclic systems and their unique properties. The dynamic domain of conjugated porous polymers, versatile photocatalysts, is discussed in Chapter 3. The synthetic strategies, functional modifications, characteristics, and recent applications of poly(oxadiazole)s and poly(indolocarbazole)s have been presented in Chapter 4. A basic understanding of the photophysics of conjugated polymer nanoparticles and the related fabrication routes are illustrated in Chapter 5, followed by the illustration of the theory behind the utilization for modelling and simulation in Chapter 6.

Описание:

Rapes are a widespread problem that India faces today. Similarly, the oppression of various tribal groups, religious communities and conditioned thinking that perpetuates stereotypical thinking surrounding these are among several things that need to be challenged through language, art and poetry. Of Reflections and Society illustrates these issues and explains the darkness we'll be entering if we don't take steps to prevent the building up of such a social atmosphere today. It also talks about the resistance of people who've struggled, of women who face obstacles at every step of their life, of people who reach realization. Does India not need the poems of realism today? When will we be realistic and face the issues that this society in various incidents throws at us? This is the time to read on and take actions.

In 2012, a gruesome incident had shaken our country in December. 'Dear Nirbhaya' is the poem written in retrospect of what devastated us and made the students of colleges come out to protest. The way that peaceful protest was discouraged left me with questions. It is a poem of both tribute and a promise to Nirbhaya that we will have to fight to prevent cannibalism of this nature.
