Описание: The Navier-Stokes equations describe the motion of fluids and are an invaluable addition to the toolbox of every physicist, applied mathematician, and engineer. The equations arise from applying Newton's laws of motion to a moving fluid and are considered, when used in combination with mass and energy conservation rules, to be the fundamental governing equations of fluid motion. They are relevant across many disciplines, from astrophysics and oceanic sciences to aerospace engineering and materials science. This Student's Guide provides a clear and focused presentation of the derivation, significance and applications of the Navier-Stokes equations, along with the associated continuity and energy equations. Designed as a useful supplementary resource for undergraduate and graduate students, each chapter concludes with a selection of exercises intended to reinforce and extend important concepts. Video podcasts demonstrating the solutions in full are provided online, along with written solutions and other additional resources.
Описание: The lecture notes in this book are based on the TCC (Taught Course Centre for graduates) course given by the author in Trinity Terms of 2009-2011 at the Mathematical Institute of Oxford University.

Описание: Outlining a Navier-Stokes-Fourier modeling theory for a Newtonian fluid governing compressible viscous and heat conducting flows, this monograph deconstructs the model and illustrates the theory through various technological and geophysical problems.
Описание: Presents different formulations of the equations governing incompressible viscous flows, in the form needed for developing numerical solution procedures. This book discusses the conditions required to satisfy the no-slip boundary conditions in the various formulations. For each formulation, it provides a statement of the mathematical problem.
The series is devoted to the publication of high-level monographs and specialized graduate texts which cover the whole spectrum of applied mathematics, including its numerical aspects. The focus of the series is on the interplay between mathematical and numerical analysis, and also on its applications to mathematical models in the physical and life sciences.
The aim of the series is to be an active forum for the dissemination of up-to-date information in the form of authoritative works that will serve the applied mathematics community as the basis for further research.

Описание: The author approaches an old classic problem - the existence of solutions of Navier-Stokes eqs. The main objective is to model and derive of equation of continuity, Euler equation of fluid motion, energy flux equation, Navier-Stokes eqs from the observer point of view and solve classic problem for this interpretation of fluid motion laws.

Описание: The book aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the most recent developments in finite volume methods. Its focus is on the development and analysis of these methods for the two- and three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations, supported by extensive numerical results. It covers the most used lower-order finite element pairs, with well-posedness and optimal analysis for these finite volume methods. The authors have attempted to make this book self-contained by offering complete proofs and theoretical results. While most of the material presented has been taught by the authors in a number of institutions over the past several years, they also include several updated theoretical results for the finite volume methods for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. This book is primarily developed to address research needs for students and academic and industrial researchers. It is particularly valuable as a research reference in the fields of engineering, mathematics, physics, and computer sciences.

Описание: This monograph considers the motion of incompressible fluids described by the Navier-Stokes equations with large inflow and outflow, and proves the existence of global regular solutions without any restrictions on the magnitude of the initial velocity, the external force, or the flux. To accomplish this, some assumptions are necessary: The flux is close to homogeneous, and the initial velocity and the external force do not change too much along the axis of the cylinder. This is achieved by utilizing a sophisticated method of deriving energy type estimates for weak solutions and global estimates for regular solutions—an approach that is wholly unique within the existing literature on the Navier-Stokes equations. To demonstrate these results, three main steps are followed: first, the existence of weak solutions is shown; next, the conditions guaranteeing the regularity of weak solutions are presented; and, lastly, global regular solutions are proven. This volume is ideal for mathematicians whose work involves the Navier-Stokes equations, and, more broadly, researchers studying fluid mechanics.

Описание: The analytical basis of Navier-Stokes Equations in Irregular Domains is formed by coercive estimates, which enable proofs to be given of the solvability of the boundary value problems for Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations in weighted Sobolev and Holder spaces, and the investigation of the smoothness of their solutions.
