Описание: This book addresses the stabilization of vaccine powders by spray drying and provides an overview of the current state of the art on a laboratory and industrial scale. The book aims to familiarize readers with the advances in vaccine spray drying technology to understand its application potential better. In particular, the book addresses the design of aseptic spray dryers, parameters affecting the spray drying process, sterile powder processing, cleaning procedures, and powder filling. In addition, different drying technologies for the production of dry powder vaccines are compared to discuss the unique capabilities of spray drying as a particle technology for vaccines. Special attention is given to research studies on spray-dried vaccines published over the past 30 years, with key findings from laboratory research to clinical trials. Potential applications of spray-dried vaccines and routes of administration are presented in detail. Finally, an outlook is given on how close the aseptic spray-drying of vaccines is to the market and the challenges that need to be overcome to be commercially successful. The books target audience is academics, researchers, vaccine developers, industry experts, students, and possibly funders, including government agencies, who are active in the field. In addition, the book is a reference source for those involved in the vaccine formulation and biopharmaceutical processing industry.

Placing these stories in dialogue with those of pediatricians who see the devastation that can be caused by vaccine-preventable diseases and the policy makers who aim to create healthy communities, Calling the Shots offers a unique opportunity to understand the points of disagreement on what is best for children, communities, and public health, and the ways in which we can bridge these differences.

Описание:

Recent advances in immunology and biology have opened new horizons in cancer therapy, included in the expanding array of cancer treatment options, which are immunotherapies, or cancer vaccines, for both solid and blood borne cancers. Cancer Vaccines: Challenges and Opportunities in Translation is the first text in the field to bring immunotherapy treatments from the laboratory trial to the bedside for the practicing oncologist.

Cancer Vaccines: Challenges and Opportunities in Translation:

  • Critically analyzes the most promising classes of investigational immunotherapies, integrating their scientific rationale and clinical potential
  • Discusses theranostics as pertaining to immunotherapy, i.e., using molecular diagnostics to identify patients that would most likely benefit from a therapy
  • Presents the new paradigm of biomarker guided R&D and clinical development in immunotherapy of cancer
  • Reviews bottlenecks in translational process of immunotherapies and offers strategies to resolve them

Описание: This book offers an excellent introduction to the use of novel therapeutic vaccines for common diseases based on their ability to induce antibody production. While the role of vaccines in the treatment of infectious diseases and cancer is well known, vaccines have also recently been developed for a variety of other conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, hypertension, diabetes, and spondyloarthritis. These therapeutic advances are fully and clearly documented by acknowledged experts in the field, who explain the relevant biology and highlight the challenges involved in deploying this treatment approach effectively and safely. In addition, recent progress in the construction and delivery of DNA vaccines is documented, and the process of developing new peptide vaccines is explored in depth. While the book will be particularly valuable for researchers and scholars interested in immunotherapy, it will also appeal to clinicians seeking effective new medicines to treat patients suffering from chronic diseases.
