Morton Feldman also argue that acts of mourning through artistic production were essential to the a group identity of the New York School. Feldman's myriad relationships provide evidence showing that friendship mediates aesthetic objects and was itself mediated by them in return. Artifacts like poems, films, compositions, and recordings register the tensions between the agape of friendship and what Gillian Rose calls the "agon of authorship."
