Описание: The purpose of this book is to review our state of knowledge about the neurobehavioral and psychosocial processes involved in behavioral inhibitory processes and to provide an insight into how these basic research findings may be translated into the practice of drug abuse prevention interventions. Over the last decade, there has been a wealth of information indicating that substance use disorders do not simply reflect an exaggeration of reward seeking behavior, but that they also represent a dysfunction of behavioral inhibitory processes that are critical in exercising self-control. A number of studies have determined that individuals with substance use disorders have poor inhibitory control compared to non-abusing individuals. In addition, the fact that the adolescent period is often characterized by a lack of inhibitory control may be one important reason for the heightened vulnerability for the initiation of drug use during this time. Controlled experiments utilizing neuroscience techniques in laboratory animals or neuroimaging techniques in humans have revealed that individual differences in prefrontal cortical regions may underlie, at least in part, these differences in inhibitory control. Although a few excellent journal reviews have been published on the role of inhibitory deficits in drug abuse, there has been relatively little attention paid to the potential applications of this work for drug abuse prevention. The current book will provide both basic and applied researchers with an overview of this important health-relevant topic. Since translational research cuts across multiple disciplines and most readers are not familiar with all of these disciplines, the reading level will be geared to be accessible to graduate students, as well as to faculty and researchers in the field. The book will be organized around three general themes, encased within introductory and concluding chapters. The first theme will review basic neurobehavioral research findings on inhibition and drug abuse. Chapters in this theme will emphasize laboratory studies using human volunteers or laboratory animals that document the latest research implicating a relation between inhibition and drug abuse at both the neural and behavioral levels of analysis. The second theme will move the topic to at-risk populations that have impulse control problems, including children, adolescents and young adults. The third theme will concentrate on prevention science as it relates to inhibitory control. Chapters in this theme will be written by experts attempting to develop and improve prevention interventions by integrating evidence-based knowledge about inhibitory control processes. In all of the chapters, writers will be asked to speculate about innovative approaches that may be useful for the practice of prevention.

Описание: Determine if your eating behaviors are a problem, develop strategies to change unhealthy patterns, and learn when and how to get professional help when needed with this practical, engaging guide to taking care of yourself when you are not a full-blown anorexic.
Millions of men and women struggle with disordered eating. Some stand at the mirror wondering how they can face the day when they look so fat. Others binge, purge, or exercise compulsively. Many skip meals, go on diet after diet, or cut out entire food groups. Still, they are never thin enough. While only 1 in 200 adults will struggle with full-blown anorexia nervosa, at least 1 in 20 (including 1 in 10 teen girls) will exhibit key symptoms of one or more of the officially recognized DSM eating disorders--anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Many suffer from the effects but never address the issue because they don't fully meet the diagnostic criteria. If this is the case for you, then you may be "almost anorexic." Drawing on case studies and the latest research, Almost Anorexic combines a psychologist's clinical experience with a patient's personal recovery story to help readers understand and overcome almost anorexia.Almost Anorexic will give you the skills to: Understand the symptoms of almost anorexic;Determine if your (or your loved one's) relationship with food is a problem;Gain insight on how to intervene with a loved one;Discover scientifically proven strategies to change unhealthy eating patterns;Learn when and how to get professional help when it's needed.

Описание:

Don't Count Me Out chronicles the life of Bruce White from the beginning of his drug use in elementary school through criminal acts fueled by his need for drugs, to his miraculous recovery three decades later and involvement in the treatment of addicts, where he is now a leader in the rehabilitation field.

Rafael Alvarez's recounting of White's journey should inspire those dealing with the fallout of addiction. Alvarez, a journalist and screenwriter, allows the reader to get inside the head of an addict who was stealing alcohol from his parents at the age of nine, selling drugs and tripping on LSD and PCP by the time he hit seventh grade, and hooked on morphine before he turned fifteen. "Bruce White? I thought he was dead?" is a response encountered in many of the interviews Alvarez conducted.

Don't Count Me Out shines a spotlight on an improbable and stunning miracle. Though this is just one person's story, the contributing factors of early sexual assault, the role of permissive preoccupied parents, and the need for peer approval, among others, will resonate with many as the opioid crisis continues to haunt us.

Описание: This Book Will Help You Stop Binging And Regain Control Over Your Eating

Are you trying to lose weight but...

you suffer from uncontrollable binges?

you lose five pounds and quickly regain seven?

dieting makes you miserable?

The problem lies in your relationship with food.

In fact, your relationship with food is one of your oldest and most important relationships. That's why food is more than just fuel for your body.

We tend to turn to food for comfort and stress relief. We use food as a reward. In short, we tend to fill our emotional needs with food - and this never really succeeds, except in making us suddenly eat cake in the middle of the night because we're mad at someone. And then we're mad at ourselves for eating so much cake.

Sounds familiar?

Emotional eating is a vicious circle. We crave something unhealthy to satisfy an emotional need, then we eat too much of it, and then we feel guilty and miserable. And the original emotional need that triggered the binge is still there.

How can you get out of this circle of bad feelings?

This book is your ultimate solution

It's a comprehensive course on overcoming emotional eating, fixing your relationship with food, and losing your weight for good.

Here's what you'll learn:

- Surprising truths about weight loss and eating

- The FOUR-step process for successful weight loss

- The secret trick to prevent yo-yo dieting

- A step-by-step method for breaking the cycle of emotional eating and regaining control over your eating habits

- And much, much more

Even if you aren't happy with your previous weight loss efforts, this book is sure to guide you to a successful body transformation because it fixes the underlying problem.
