Описание: The proposed book will act as a guide for scientists and clinicians to the unique information that MRS can provide. It will be a comprehensive overview of clinical and pre-clinical MRS applications and potential clinical utility of MRS biomarkers in degenerative brain diseases from leading experts in the field. MRS has proven to be a powerful complementary tool to MRI for the diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression and response to treatment because it can detect changes in cell density, cell type, and biochemical composition, not just structural changes. As the population in the developed world continues to age, neuroimaging for diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy monitoring of neurodegenerative diseases becomes increasingly important and there has been a recent surge of clinical and pre-clinical applications of MRS indicating that this technique can provide robust and non-invasive biomarkers of degeneration. ?

Описание:
Imagine being unable to recognise your spouse, your children, or even yourself when you look in the mirror, despite having good eyesight and being able to read well and name objects. This is a condition which, in rare cases, some brain injury survivors experience every day.
Identity Unknown gives an exceptional, poignant and in-depth understanding of what it is like to live with the severe after-effects of brain damage caused by a viral infection of the brain. It tells the story of Claire, a nurse, wife, and mother of four, who having survived encephalitis, was left with an inability to recognise faces - a condition also known as prosopagnosia together with a loss of knowledge of people and more general loss of semantic memory
Part One describes our current knowledge of encephalitis, of perception and memory, and the theoretical aspects of prosopagnosia and semantic memory. Part Two, told in Claire's own words, is an account of her life before her illness, her memories of the early days in hospital, an account of the treatment she received at the Oliver Zangwill Centre, and her description of the long-term consequences of encephalitis. Claire's profound insights, clear writing style, and powerful portrayal of her feelings provide us with a moving insider's view of her condition. These chapters also contain additional commentary from Barbara Wilson, providing further detail about the condition, treatment possibilities, potential outcomes, and follow-up options.
Identity Unknown provides a unique personal insightinto a condition which many of us have, for too long, known too little about. It will be of great interest to a broad audience including professionals working in rehabilitation settings, and all those who have sustained a brain injury, their families and carers.

Описание: Drawing upon over one thousand pages of letters and scores, Teaching Stravinsky examines the extent to which Boulanger played a foundational role in defining, defending, and ultimately consecrating Stravinsky`s canonical identity, and considers how the quotidian events in the lives of these two icons of modernism informed both their art and their professional decisions.

Описание: In this book Tony Schneider draws together the three strands of philosophy, neuroscience, and psychology to explore the mind/body question as it affects the clinician. Schneider considers traditional psychological topics contextualized by neuroscience research and the mind/body issue, as well as applying the ideas to various areas of clinical practice.
Описание: Rauch and McLean bridge the gap between neuroscience research and the treatment of PTSD patients. Individuals with PTSD have developed automatic associations between specific stimuli and traumatic events. As a result, these individuals experience intense fear when exposed to the stimuli, even though the original threat is no longer present. This book presents prolonged exposure therapy (PE), a specific manualized exposure therapy program for PTSD. A variant of exposure therapy, PE is a cognitive behavioral approach designed to reduce pathological anxiety and related emotions by helping patients approach relatively safe but distress-provoking thoughts, memories, situations, and stimuli, with the goal of reducing unhelpful emotional reactions to those stimuli. Informed by extensive research but written for clinicians, the book explains how neuroscience can guide our application of the three key components of PE: ( ) psychoeducation about the nature of trauma, (2) in vivo exposure to trauma reminders, and (3) imaginal exposure to the memory of the traumatic event followed by processing of the imaginal and other exposures.
