Описание: Tyler Burge offers an agenda-setting, scientifically rigorous account of the most primitive form of representational mind: perception. He explains how perception works and how it relates to other mental capacities-conation, attention, memory, anticipation, affect, learning, imagining-and clarifies the distinction between perceiving and thinking.

Описание:
With a new preface by the authorSince its original publication in 1976, Perception and Misperception in International Politics has become a landmark book in its field, hailed by the New York Times as "the seminal statement of principles underlying political psychology." This new edition includes an extensive preface by the author reflecting on the book's lasting impact and legacy, particularly in the application of cognitive psychology to political decision making, and brings that analysis up to date by discussing the relevant psychological research over the past forty years. Jervis describes the process of perception (for example, how decision makers learn from history) and then explores common forms of misperception (such as overestimating one's influence). He then tests his ideas through a number of important events in international relations from nineteenth- and twentieth-century European history. Perception and Misperception in International Politics is essential for understanding international relations today.
Автор: Schellenberg Susanna Название: The Unity of Perception: Content, Consciousness, Evidence ISBN: 0192846221 ISBN-13(EAN): 9780192846228 Издательство: Oxford Academ Рейтинг: Цена: 7424.00 р. Наличие на складе: Нет в наличии.
Описание: This book develops a unified account of perceptual content, perceptual consciousness, and perceptual evidence. Each is analyzed in terms of the key idea that perception is constituted by employing perceptual capacities, for example, the capacity to discriminate red from blue. The view presented is radical, original, and broad in scope.

Описание: Originally published in 1982, the editors felt that their field was clearly in need of explanatory accounts for many different areas. This volume presents statements of the status of research in several areas by scholars at the forefront of the discipline.
Описание: Recent years have witnessed important advancements in our understanding of the psychological underpinnings of subjective properties of visual information, such as aesthetics, memorability, or induced emotions. Concurrently, computational models of objective visual properties such as semantic labelling and geometric relationships have made significant breakthroughs using the latest achievements in machine learning and large-scale data collection. There has also been limited but important work exploiting these breakthroughs to improve computational modelling of subjective visual properties. The time is ripe to explore how advances in both of these fields of study can be mutually enriching and lead to further progress. This book combines perspectives from psychology and machine learning to showcase a new, unified understanding of how images and videos influence high-level visual perception - particularly interestingness, affective values and emotions, aesthetic values, memorability, novelty, complexity, visual composition and stylistic attributes, and creativity. These human-based metrics are interesting for a very broad range of current applications, ranging from content retrieval and search, storytelling, to targeted advertising, education and learning, and content filtering. Work already exists in the literature that studies the psychological aspects of these notions or investigates potential correlations between two or more of these human concepts. Attempts at building computational models capable of predicting such notions can also be found, using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques. Nevertheless their performance proves that there is still room for improvement, as the tasks are by nature highly challenging and multifaceted, requiring thought on both the psychological implications of the human concepts, as well as their translation to machines.

Описание: This book explores the evolution of the mental competence for self-reflection: why it evolved, under what selection pressures, in what environments, out of what precursors, and with what mental resources. It will interest scholars across the fields of cognitive science, developmental psychology, evolutionary psychology, and philosophy of the mind.
