Описание: Academe has made little progress in hiring and advancing faculty of color.

Through the narratives of full professors of color, this book aims to make visible their journeys — beset with lack of criteria transparency, marginalization, discouragement, and discrimination on the way to success — to provide insights for junior and mid-level scholars as they negotiate their pathways to full professorship.

This book offers readers a unique, micro-and macroscopic window into the lived experiences of individuals who represent a multitude of social, ethnic and cultural identities, disciplinary domains, academic and professional credentials, and socialization experiences. They share their doubts and fears as they began their applications, the contradictory advice they received, who they consulted for guidance, some of the indelible costs of the experience and, when they encountered it, how they dealt with initial rejection.

In describing their persistence and success, the contributors reflect on the rewards of the position and the opportunities it offers to play influential decision-making roles and become agents of change, shifting institutional culture, values, and practices.

Beyond filling a gap in the literature and research on, and promotion to, this position, this book uniquely addresses the experiences of women and men faculty of color, raising broad implications for how higher education recruits, evaluates, and rewards faculty work, as well as the broader context of racial and social institutional goals and outcomes.

This book is intended for several audiences. First, for faculty of color who aspire to the rank of full professor. Second, for faculty in general, including allies who work tirelessly for social justice, to dismantle white supremacy, racism, sexism, and the range of discriminatory practices Third, for administrators in senior leadership positions to make them aware of the inequitable path to full professorship and the gross underrepresentation of faculty of color at that rank whose experiences and expertise are now more than ever needed as student demographics are changing.

Описание: Career pathways (CP) has gained prominence as a strategy to ensure that high school students and displaced workers acquire the college and career readiness skills needed in a fast-changing, globalized economy. In an effort to ensure future success for CP, Stephen F. Hamilton examines the School-to-Work (STW) movement of the 1980s and 1990s and explores how the lessons learned from that campaign's demise can pave the way for a CP program that endures and serves the most deserving. Hamilton recounts the history and trajectory of STW and CP and outlines the components of a career pathways program that can stand the test of time. He recommends a plan that includes work-based learning, dual enrollment opportunities, coordination at the K-12 and post-secondary levels, private and public funding, and above all, the creation of a CP infrastructure or "system" rather than a loose collection of programs that characterized the earlier STW initiative. Guided by the latest research, Career Pathway for All Youth features vignettes and interviews with educators, leaders, and career-to-work industry veterans, including High-Tech High, YouthBuild, Linked Learning, CareerWise Colorado, and Apprenticeship Carolina. Showcasing CP's many guises and possibilities, the book should help educators learn from the past and secure a more equitable future.

Описание: With the increasingly interconnected learning and employment ecosystems, competency-based e-credentials and alternative e-credentials are trailblazing multiple pathways to professions for inclusive excellence. Integrating high-leverage pedagogies, high-impact field experiences, and competency-based assessments with evidence-rich documentations, the new generation of micro-credentials and digital badges offer competitive advantages for both professional growth and career advancement. The proliferation of e-credentials and alternative e-credentials reflects cross-sector interests in recent years. However, the varying quality and value of the e-credentials are creating confusion and will likely impact practices across educational, employment, and policy arenas on how learning and credentials are designed, experienced, and awarded.

Credential Innovations for Inclusive Pathways to Professions surveys the state of e-credential exam current practices and explores future impactions with case studies highlighting e-credentials and alternative e-credentials issued through a variety of agencies across the nation. This book simultaneously increases the quality and value of e-credentials through collective research and development, while at the same time improving validity and transparency of e-credentials through multi-sector partnerships for inclusive excellence. Covering topics such as credential value, digital badging, and social learning communities, this book is an ideal resource for managers, teachers, administrators, researchers, students, professors, and academicians.
