Описание: Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) provides a revolutionary treatment plan for PTSD, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders and more. Using a non-pathologizing, accelerated approach -- rooted in neuroscience -- IFS applies inner resources and self-compassion for healing emotional wounding at its core. This new manual offers straight-forward explanations and illustrates a wide variety of applications. Easy to read and highly practical. - Step-by-step techniques - Annotated case examples - Unique meditations - Downloadable exercises, worksheets IFS is Evidence-Based Thirty years ago, IFS creator Richard Schwartz, PhD, listened to his clients describing the behaviors and fears of their most extreme parts. He found that the inner world of all his clients was characterized by parts who had a positive intent for the client but had taken on extreme roles in an effort to be safe. He also discovered that these extreme parts would become less disruptive and more cooperative once their concerns were addressed and they felt safer. IFS views psychic multiplicity as the norm: we all have parts. In addition, every part has a good intention for the client, and every part has value. When clients listen to all their parts, they can heal their wounded parts. Today, IFS, which has established a legacy of efficiency and effectiveness in treating many mental health issues, is being heralded by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk as a treatment that all clinicians should know.

Описание: Eric is a sand dragon who loves the sea very much. Each day, he watches it go out, knowing that it will return. But one day, Eric waits and waits, but it does not come back. He falls on the sand, feeling as if he has lost everything. Eric wants to shut himself off from his feelings, but eventually spots a little wildflower growing, and another, and another. He builds a rock pool garden, in memory of the sea that he loves, and learns that it is much better to feel the full pain of his loss, instead of closing his heart. The Day the Sea Went Out and Never Came Back is a story for children who have lost someone they love. The beautiful illustrations and sensitively written story offer a wealth of opportunities to begin a conversation about the difficult emotions that can follow a loss, helping children to acknowledge and express their emotions. The story shows them that it is brave to feel sad, that they are surrounded by support, and that memories of a loved one are a special treasure that can never be lost. Ideal for starting conversations about grief and sadness, this is an essential resource for anybody supporting children aged 4-12 who have experienced loss.

Описание:

This text offers a comprehensive introduction to the basics tenets of mental health-related counseling. Aimed at graduate-level students studying mental health counseling, school counseling, or similarly related professions, this text will enable students to become familiar with the foundational skills required to implement various counseling approaches and to work in diverse counseling environments.

The first section of the text presents a contemporary introduction to the practice of professional helping. It addresses the basics of helping relationships with an emphasis on understanding the ways in which these relationships are shaped by power, privilege, and experiences of bias and discrimination. Readers are introduced to the concepts of social discourse and positioning theory. These theories offer insight into many of the challenges that clients bring in to therapy, so understanding them augments the ways in which we think about clients and about helping. This section also includes a basic overview of interpersonal neurobiology to help students understand the complex connections between human behavior and the central nervous system, particularly in regard to the expression of empathy, affect regulation, and complex trauma. Finally, this first section provides an overview of ethical practice and the importance of self-awareness and self-care.

With these foundational ideas in place, the second section of the text delves into particular counseling skills that can be used in individual counseling work, in leading groups, and in crisis response. These skills range from communicating empathy, attentive listening, and asking questions, to using paraphrases, immediacy, confrontation, and many additional additive skills. Readers are also introduced to some basic change strategies that can be used across modalities. These include problem solving, affect regulation, motivating change, mindfulness, advocacy, and other transmodality change strategies. The text concludes with separate chapters on basic skills for working with groups and crisis response work.

Designed to introduce fundamental skills in helping to mental health counselors, as well as clinicians across a variety of professional disciplines, Helping Skills for Counselors is an invaluable resource for students of mental health counseling, school counseling, social work, and psychology.

Anne Geroski, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the counseling program at The University of Vermont. She earned her doctorate degree in counselor education from University of Maine-Orono and has served as an administrator, elementary school counselor, mental health clinician, and consultant in various settings across the U.S. and abroad.
