Описание: International Education Inquiries is a book series dedicated to realizing the global vision of The United Nations’ (2015) Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As resolved by the UN General Assembly (on 25 September 2015; see UN, 2015 October):
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets which we are announcing today demonstrate the scale and ambition of this new universal Agenda. They seek to build on the Millennium Development Goals and complete what they did not achieve. They seek to realize the human rights of all and to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. They are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental. The United Nations’ goals and targets will stimulate action over the next decade in areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet…. We are determined to end poverty and hunger, in all their forms and dimensions, and to ensure that all human beings can fulfil their potential in dignity and equality and in a healthy environment.
This vision includes to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” (SDG4, UN, 2017). The founding co-editors seek to provide a forum for the diverse voices of scholars and practitioners from across the globe asking questions about transforming the vision of Education 2030 into a reality. Published chapters reflect a variety of formats, free of methodological restrictions, involving disciplinary as well as interdisciplinary inquiries. We expect the series will be a leading forum for pioneers redefining the international professional knowledge base about the people, places, and perspectives shaping Education 2030 outcomes and the meaning of global citizen education (UNESCO, 2015). Education 2030 topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
Improving access to quality early childhood development, care, and pre-primary education.
Ensuring equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality education.
Increasing the number of youth and adults who have skills relevant for sustainable living and livelihoods.
Ensuring equal access for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and children in vulnerable situations.
Achieving levels of literacy and numeracy required to engage in communities and employment.
Acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including: education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship education, and the appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contributions to sustainable development.
Providing safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all.
Recruiting, preparing, supporting, and retaining quality teachers.
As we transition through very uncertain and challenging times, we have a chance to start again—and do better as a Collective. With newfound acknowledgment of the damage done by structural inequities, systemic racism, and implicit bias, we are ready to create communities that value and support everyone.
In education, that means challenging and dismantling systems that have harmed historically marginalized children and families for generations. Here you’ll find a powerful model for using relational trust, cultural humility, and appreciation of diverse perspectives to build learning communities that collectively uplift all students and all members of the learning community. Features include
An original Collective Equity Framework for creating transformative equitable learning environments
Protocols for enacting cultural humility, vulnerability, and mutuality dispositions leveraged to create culturally sustaining learning communities
Strategies and tools for organizational analyses to guide conversations that support the implementation of culturally fortifying practices at organizational, curricular, programmatic, and instructional levels
A behavioral-outcome measurement tool for charting the progress of the members of the Collective towards developing culturally conscious actions and equity focused outcomes.
Vignettes and case studies from district and school leaders reflecting examples of how the collective members of their organizations work towards creating transformative equitable learning environments
Positive outcomes always take work. When we build relational trust, value and validate the dimensions of identities for all members in the learning community as a Collective, we are able to create Equity Pathways and Equity Pavers to chart a new course where we can ALL Breathe and achieve our shared objective: educational equity for all.
Engaging with Linguistic Diversity describes an innovative and highly successful approach to inclusive plurilingual education at primary level. The approach was developed by Scoil Bhr de (Cail n ), Blanchardstown, as a way of converting extreme linguistic diversity - more than 50 home languages in a school of 320 pupils - into educational capital. The central feature of the approach is the inclusion of home languages in classroom communication. After describing the national context, the book traces the development of Scoil Bhr de's approach and explores in detail its impact on classroom discourse, pupils' plurilingual literacy development, and their capacity for autonomous learning. The authors illustrate their arguments with a wealth of practical evidence drawn from a variety of sources; pupils' and teachers' voices are especially prominent. The concluding chapter considers issues of sustainability and replication and the implications of the approach for teacher education. The book refers to a wide range of relevant research findings and theories, including translanguaging, plurilingual and intercultural education, language awareness and language learner autonomy. It is essential reading for researchers and policy-makers in the field of linguistically inclusive education.

Описание: Art and Design for Secondary Students with Special Educational Needs is a valuable compilation of practical ideas, visual aids and lesson plans designed to engage students in developing their creative art skills. Made up of twelve lessons that each examine a particular theme, the book spans a wide variety of topics and different media.
Radically reimagine our ways of being, learning, and doing
Education can be transformed if we eradicate our fixation on big data like standardized test scores as the supreme measure of equity and learning. Instead of the focus being on “fixing” and “filling” academic gaps, we must envision and rebuild the system from the student up—with classrooms, schools and systems built around students’ brilliance, cultural wealth, and intellectual potential. Street data reminds us that what is measurable is not the same as what is valuable and that data can be humanizing, liberatory and healing.
By breaking down street data fundamentals: what it is, how to gather it, and how it can complement other forms of data to guide a school or district’s equity journey, Safir and Dugan offer an actionable framework for school transformation. Written for educators and policymakers, this book
· Offers fresh ideas and innovative tools to apply immediately
· Provides an asset-based model to help educators look for what’s right in our students and communities instead of seeking what’s wrong
· Explores a different application of data, from its capacity to help us diagnose root causes of inequity, to its potential to transform learning, and its power to reshape adult culture
Описание: Rather than redressing the issues of school discipline disproportionality overall, this book examines the existence of school on student groups who, according to research and reports, are afflicted the most: African American, Latinx, Native American, and LGBTQ+ population.
