Описание: Portraits of Anti-racist Alternative Routes to Teaching in the U.S.: Framing Teacher Development for Community, Justice, and Visionaries portrays how a critical teacher development framework for Teachers of Color can be applied to alternative routes to teaching and professional development program initiatives to actualize commitments to communities, social justice and visionaries. The types of anti-racist structures, vehicles for justice, tailored and responsive preparation, and community-based partnerships and leadership identified by program initiatives provide a sketch of possibilities for school principals, policymakers, community organizers, teacher education programs, and district personnel to work together as key stakeholders to begin challenging and dismantling systems of oppression that restrict the recruitment and retention of Teachers of Color in schools. Portraits of Anti-racist Alternative Routes to Teaching in the U.S. compels us to stir up a radical imagination to strengthen communities, work for justice, and grow visionaries.

Описание:
With surprising candor, the authors of (Re)narrating Teacher Identity: Telling Truths and Becoming Teachers crack open what it means to become and be a teacher in the twenty-first century United States. In an effort to dig deeper into the challenge of teaching, four new teachers engaged in a summer writers workshop. Drawing from the work of Barbara Kamler (2001), the teachers used artifacts such as school graffiti and text messages to "reposition" and (re)narrate their identities as teachers. In braving truth-telling, the authors built a collective well-being. These stories are an important resource for novice teachers, experienced teachers, and teacher educators alike for disrupting dominant teacher narratives and moving towards alternatives.
Through the artful science of portraiture, The Pedagogy of Teacher Activism presents the stories of four teacher activists—how they are and have become social change agents—to uncover important pedagogical underpinnings of teacher activism. Embedded in their stories are moments of political clarity and consciousness, giving rise to their purpose as teacher activists. The narratives illuminate how both inner passions and those stirred by caring relationships with others motivate their work, while the intentional ways in which they attempt to disrupt power relations give shape to their approaches to teacher activism. Knowing their work will never truly be done and that the road they travel is often difficult, the teacher activists considered here persist because of the hope and possibility that their work might change the world. Like many pre-service educators or undergraduates contemplating teaching as a vocation, these teacher activists were not born ready for the work that they do. Yet by mining their biographical histories and trajectories of political development, this book illuminates the pedagogy of teacher activism that guides their work.
Описание: James D. Kirylo gives a personal and reflective account of what it means to be a Catholic teacher, drawing on the rich history of the Church and its inclusive nature through ecumenical, interfaith, and interreligious dialogue, along with the Church’s social teachings and its link to liberation theology and a critical pedagogy in the light of faith. Recognizing teaching as a sacred vocation, Kirylo covers how faith should inform the practical matters of teaching and how these intersect with broader debates outside the classroom, including the COVID-19 pandemic, gun control, the sanctity of life, and climate change. The Catholic Teacher: Teaching for Social Justice with Faith, Hope, and Love is a book that underscores the dialectical interweaving of faith and action in the effort to foster a more just, loving, and right world.

Описание: This book validates the claim that the process of reproduction of social inequalities in teacher education is not a perfect, static process, but on the contrary, the real "seeds of transformation" within teacher education departments are abundant.

Описание: This narrative ethnography adopts an aesthetic lens to relay the lived experiences of a non-traditional, Midwestern public high school during its final year in its original building. The book examines how this high school incorporated a self-paced curriculum with a focus on ""family"" to address the needs of students at risk of not graduating.
