Описание: Sets out the case for repurposing harmful agricultural support to drive a food systems transformation that can support global sustainable development commitments.
Описание: Presents the first global assessment of food insecurity and malnutrition for 2020 and offers some indication of what hunger might look like by 2030 in a scenario further complicated by the enduring effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The report also includes new estimates of the cost and affordability of healthy diets.

Описание: Updates for many countries have made it possible to estimate hunger in the world with greater accuracy this year. In particular, newly accessible data enabled the revision of the entire series of undernourishment estimates for China back to 2000, resulting in a substantial downward shift of the series of the number of undernourished in the world. Nevertheless, the revision confirms the trend reported in past editions: the number of people affected by hunger globally has been slowly on the rise since 2014. The report also shows that the burden of malnutrition in all its forms continues to be a challenge. There has been some progress for child stunting, low birthweight and exclusive breastfeeding, but at a pace that is still too slow. Childhood overweight is not improving and adult obesity is on the rise in all regions.
The report complements the usual assessment of food security and nutrition with projections of what the world may look like in 2030, if trends of the last decade continue. Projections show that the world is not on track to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030 and, despite some progress, most indicators are also not on track to meet global nutrition targets. The food security and nutritional status of the most vulnerable population groups is likely to deteriorate further due to the health and socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The report puts a spotlight on diet quality as a critical link between food security and nutrition. Meeting SDG 2 targets will only be possible if people have enough food to eat and if what they are eating is nutritious and affordable. The report also introduces new analysis of the cost and affordability of healthy diets around the world, by region and in different development contexts. It presents valuations of the health and climate-change costs associated with current food consumption patterns, as well as the potential cost savings if food consumption patterns were to shift towards healthy diets that include sustainability considerations. The report then concludes with a discussion of the policies and strategies to transform food systems to ensure affordable healthy diets, as part of the required efforts to end both hunger and all forms of malnutrition.
Описание: Contributes to the improved understanding, dissemination, and use of Public Food Procurement as a development tool in particular in the case of school meals programmes. This volume presents evidence of the instruments, enablers, and barriers for PFP implementation, and provides case studies of local, regional, and national experiences.
Описание: Contributes to the improved understanding, dissemination, and use of Public Food Procurement as a development tool in particular in the case of school meals programmes. This volume argues that PFP can promote the conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity, and improve the nutrition and health of children and communities.
Описание: It also explores the actions and policy options that could be pursued. Three themes are examined: (i) improving food safety and quality; (ii) inclusive and sustainable, safe and environment-friendly agriculture products; and (iii) value chains for safe and environment-friendly agriculture products. This aligns with the ASEAN Economic Community blueprint, which calls for the creation of a single market and production base for food, agriculture, forestry; and integration of the region into the global economy.

Описание:
Using a political-economic approach supplemented with insights from human ecology, this volume analyzes the long-term dynamics of food security and economic growth. The book begins by discussing the nature of preindustrial food crises and the changes that have occurred since the 19th century with the ascent of technical science and the fossil fuel revolution. It explains how these changes improved living standards but that the realization of this improvement was usually dependent on government support for smallholder modernization.
The author sets out how the evolution of food security in different regions has been influenced by farm policy choices and how these choices were shaped by local societal characteristics, international relations and changing configurations in metropolitan countries. Separate chapters are devoted to the interaction of this evolution with debates on food security and economic growth and with international economic policies. The final chapters highlight the new challenges for global food security that will arise as traditional sources of biomass production and the more easily extractable reserves of fossil biomass become depleted or can no longer be used. Overall, the book emphasizes the inadequacy of current explanations with regard to these challenges. It explores what is needed to ensure a sustainable future and calls for a rethinking of these issues; a necessary reflection in today's unstable global political situation.
Описание: This paper examines evidence regarding climate variability and extremes in agricultural areas and the impact of these on agriculture and food security.
The case studies presented provide an integrated picture of how increasing climate variability and extremes are negatively affecting agriculture, resulting in destructive secondary impacts on livelihoods, income, food prices and coping capacities. These in turn lead to increased food insecurity.
According to the study, the challenge is to scale up and accelerate actions that strengthen the resilience of food systems and livelihoods to climate variability and extremes. Integrated, rather than dissociated, disaster risk reduction and management, as well as climate adaptation policies, programmes and practices are critical.
